Top-ranked Oregon is heavily favored in college football odds at California on Saturday night in a game that will be shown on the Versus television network.
Oregon leads the country in points per game at 54.7 and not many people believe they can be stopped against the college football betting odds. California will get the chance as they are at home where they have not lost a game this season.
Oregon -19.5 at SBG
The Ducks are 19.5 point road favorites with the total listed at 58. Oregon has a great offense but they are facing the best defense in the conference on Saturday night. California is well coached with Jeff Tedford and the Ducks have never beaten him at Memorial Stadium. Last week the Ducks started slowly as they didn’t even score in the first quarter against Washington. They turned it on late though and won going away. Oregon is led by running back LaMichael James who leads the nation in rushing with 166.4 yards per game and 18 touchdowns. He had 118 yards in last year’s 42-3 home rout of California.
No California Offense
It is interesting to consider an upset in this game and perhaps it would be possible if California could score. They are going with junior quarterback Brock Mansion and he was just 12 of 24 for 171 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions as the Bears just barely beat Washington State last week. The Bears can play defense but it isn’t going to matter if they can’t put up some points because Oregon is not going to be totally shutdown.
Recent Trends
California has never beaten a top-ranked team in their history going 0-10. It does not appear they will win on Saturday either. The Ducks are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games. The one positive for California is that they are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games. When you look closer though you will find that the Bears are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games as a home underdog. You might want to take the over simply because Oregon goes over all the time. The Over is 6-1 in the Ducks last 7 road games and the
Over is 4-1 in the Bears last 5 home games. The problem with going over the total is that California can’t score and that in this series, four of the last five meetings have gone under the college football odds.
