Duke’s Mayo Bowl Format

After a decade of sponsoring this bowl game, Belk pulled out of the title role after the 2019 edition. That left this bowl looking for a sponsor. Hence, it was announced that Duke’s Mayo would become the new sponsor in the summer of 2020.

This game has always featured an ACC team since it is in the heart of ACC country. From 2002 to 2013, the ACC took on a team from the Big East in Charlotte. However, the dissolution of the conference’s football programs led to Duke’s Mayo Bowl featuring teams from the SEC and ACC between 2014 and 2019.

Duke’s Mayo Bowl Past Winners

Virginia has enjoyed its time in Charlotte. The Cavaliers are 3-0 here, and they won the first two Duke’s Mayo Bowls back when it was known as the Continental Tire Bowl. They were on the right side of the most lopsided shutout in the bowl game’s history when they blanked South Carolina 28-0 in 2018, and their play is a big reason why the ACC has a winning record in this bowl game.

North Carolina’s loss to South Carolina in 2021 means that the ACC is now 10-10 all-time in this bowl game. North Carolina has made it to this game five times and is 1-4 in this offshore betting bowl game.
