Georgia Bulldogs Seeks Repeat but Faces Hard Road

Georgia Bulldogs Seeks Repeat but Faces Hard Road

Mercifully, the national championship has finally been secured at Georgia. But now comes the hard part. That is defending the national title that took 40 years to win. The Georgia Bulldogs begin their seventh college football odds season under head coach Kirby Smart. Thanks to Smart’s monster recruiting efforts, UGA is as talented as ever. But a repeat natty will be extremely tough. Of major concern is the number of Bulldogs who departed to be selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. In 2022 the Georgia offense returns plenty of production and experience.

Smart Faces Tough Choices With Loaded Roster

Namely, Stetson Bennett returns for his sixth sports betting season at Georgia. Bennett faced plenty of doubters during the 2021 season. Fans, gamblers, and the media screamed for former five-star prospect JT Daniels.

But Bennett held on, and Daniels entered the transfer portal after the national championship win. Bennett is a former walk-on and one of the great inspirational stories in sports. Bennett was the Orange Bowl MVP in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against Michigan. And then, in the national championship game, he was clutch in the 4th quarter to spark the win over Alabama.

At the onset of 2022, Georgia retains a strong stable of running backs with Kenny McIntosh and Kendall Milton. Power back Branson Robinson arrived in the summer and could emerge as a College football betting odds star. Of great concern is how the transfer portal hit UGA’s pass-catching group hard at the end of the 2021 season. Jermaine Burton entered his name and moved to arch-rival Alabama.

Bulldogs Conclusion

But the Bulldogs have some 5-star players to lean on. That group includes the team’s leading receiver in 2021, tight end, Brock Bowers. One of the heroes of the National Championship Game, Adonai Mitchell, also returns. Additionally, the Bulldogs are hoping that the gifted Arik Gilbert can develop. The offensive line brings back three of five starters from last season’s squad.

The Georgia defense was among the best in history last year. They will not reach such a level with the 2022 unit. Consider that UGA must replace some serious talent on the defensive line. But there is plenty of 5-star recruits on the roster.

Georgia’s talent level gives it a higher potential than another program that lost so much talent. Smart’s crew remains loaded with raw material. Still, it is a tall task to replace the amount of production the Bulldogs lost after winning it all a year ago. But the schedule is manageable.

But the dominant defense must try to reload rather than rebuild. Georgia has three national championships (1942, 1980, and 2021). The program operates in one of the most fertile recruiting regions in America. And the fan base is legendary for its passion and loyalty.
