Despite their name-brand status, Georgia has held good betting value this season.  The Bulldogs covered nine out of their 14 matchups in 2021.  Considering how much casual money flows in on Georgia, that is a profound statement to the Bulldogs’ power.

Head Coach Kirby Smart

Kirby Smart, age 46, is as pure of a Georgia Man as can be found.  Consider that Smart played for the Bulldogs from 1995 through 1998.  Under then-head coach Jim Donnan, Smart was a 4-year letterman.  Also, he was a first-team All-SEC defensive back as a senior.  Smart also made an effort to hit the books at Georgia.  To illuminate, he was a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.  He graduated with a finance degree.

Smart had a long association with Alabama head coach Nick Saban.  He worked under Saban at LSU and with the Miami Dolphins.  Subsequently, Smart became Saban’s defensive coordinator at Alabama from 2008-15.  During his time in Tuscaloosa, Smart learned the value of recruiting the absolute best talent available.  Correlate Smart’s comment’s this year about how talent will beat scheming almost every time.

Smart has a career record of 65-15 at Georgia with two SEC titles.  In 2017 he led the Bulldogs to the National Championship Game.  However, Alabama won that game in overtime 26-23 after UGA seemed to have the title in hand.

Georgia’s Quarterback Quandary

Former walk-on Stetson Bennett had the starting quarterback job fall into his lap in 2020 because of injuries up the depth chart.  Bennett has proven to be a superb game manager.  Of great concern is Bennett’s lack of raw talent.

Backup JT Daniels has the natural ability that Bennett lacks.  But Daniels has been plagued by injuries arriving as a transfer from USC.
