The most shocking move for the 2022 college football coaching carousel was by Brian Kelly. Specifically, Kelly walked out of one of college football’s historic programs at Notre Dame to start over at LSU. These days, LSU is the program with more upside and national championship potential. By contrast, Notre Dame has found a ceiling in the current era. However, the LSU football program is in serious need of some bold action. Since their college football odds season and a national championship, LSU has gone 11–12.

2022 LSU Tigers SBG Odds Overview
Last January, LSU was down to less than 40 scholarship players for their Texas Bowl loss to Kansas State. Kelly believes he can return to 84 scholarship players, just one under the FBS limit. But having to deal with such a critical Kelly is now in Baton Rouge. Personnel problems top the many offshore betting challenges Kelly and his new LSU staff. Kelly’s staff has the merciless task of rebuilding a championship contender.
Kelly also brought back former McNeese head coach Frank Wilson as his running backs coach. Additionally, Wilson brings the bonus of strong recruiting ties in Louisiana. Also, Kelly sought out a blast from his coaching past. He will reunite with offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock from Cincinnati.
At the beginning of the QB depth chart is sixth-year senior Myles Brennan. Brennan hasn’t played since early 2020. Cause by injuries and competition. But he was talked back from the transfer portal by Kelly.
Next is former Arizona State starter Jayden Daniels, who transferred a few weeks before spring practice. And then there is redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier, who played spot duty in 2021. Also in the mix is a true freshman mid-term enrollee in Walker Howard.
Whoever winds up behind the center will have one of the SEC’s best receivers in Kayshon Boutte. Getting him to return was a major College football betting odds score for Kelly. Also, on the positive side was getting senior running back John Emery Jr. eligible after he wasted all of the 2021 season in academic trouble.
Meanwhile, the offensive line returns three players who started games last season. Offensive line coach Brad was the only holdover from former head coach Ed Orgeron’s staff.
Defensively, Kelly appointed former Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach Matt House as his defensive coordinator. The Tigers will go with a three-man front with top pass rusher BJ Ojulari playing as a linebacker. Correlate, the defensive front is stout with the surprising return of end Ali Gaye for his senior season. But the school that prides itself on having the nation’s most talented secondary will have a seriously retooled defensive back corps.
In sum, the massive turnover on LSU’s roster makes the Tigers a challenging team to handicap. The schedule is manageable enough if LSU can answer its many personnel issues.
