Miami-OH at Miami-FL SBG Odds Overview

Following the Hurricanes’ departure from the Big East for the ACC in 2004, Miami football has only produced one 10-win season. Additionally, the Hurricanes have produced over half that number of head coaches. Last season was one of the worst for the Hurricanes yet. Correlate the Canes finished 5-7 and lost to Middle Tennessee State of all teams. Head coach Mario Cristobal will have much to prove in year two.

Miami-OH Redhawks Team Overview

It is true that the path to an offshore bookmaker division title is tough. But the RedHawks will benefit from the return of quarterback Brett Gabbert. Gabbert missed nearly all of 2022 with an injury. Meanwhile, Miami-OH has a defense that could be the best in the conference. Especially after holding teams to 22.6 points a game last year. Restocking the receiving corps with Mac Hippenhammer departing is the biggest question mark on offense.

Head Coach Chuck Martin has done a great job of turning this program around. Following nine years of not making one bowl game, Martin has made it to four bowls in nine years. It could have been six, though. In 2018, Miami (OH) was bowl-eligible but not invited. And then, in 2020, they did not go to a bowl game due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite having a winning record.

The defense lost their top corner. But it brought back four of their other five top guys. Matthew Salopek is back, as is most of a solid defensive line. Last year, this was one of the best defenses against the rush. Also, the Redhawks were impressive in terms of points allowed. They should continue to improve this year. And defense will be the main focus of this squad.

Miami-FL Hurricanes Team Overview

The Miami-FL Canes should show improvement in coach Mario Cristobal’s second season. However, how big of a jump in wins hinges on the pairing of new play-caller Shannon Dawson with quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. After a breakout ’21 season, Van Dyke struggled with injuries and never seemed comfortable under previous offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. The arrival of two five-star freshmen at offensive tackle, along with Alabama transfer Javion Cohen, should boost the offensive line.

Also, the defense is under new leadership. Namely, Lance Guidry arrives from Tulane to call the signals in ’23. In addition to overall improvement after an up-and-down ’22 campaign, Guidry must get this group to cut down on the big plays allowed.
