Is This Finally Michigan’s Betting on College Football Year of Glory?

2019 Michigan Wolverines Futures Betting Analysis

First it must be stated that Jim Harbaugh has NOT failed at Michigan.  Despite the haters and critics his body of work has been good.  A further look reveals that Michigan had a serious look at the College Football Playoff in three of his four seasons.  Granted, the Wolverines faded down the stretch and couldn’t finish.  In like manner their betting on college football failures against Ohio State have rankled.  Consistent with that was an abysmal 62-39 loss at OSU last year.  But since that debacle much has changed.  M Men are excited about a breakout season for 2019.

B1G Urban Renewal

A clear difference for the 2019 season begins with Ohio State.  Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer “retired”.  At least for now. Of course, Meyer was 7-0 against Michigan for his career.   Most believe that Meyer’s departure leaves a major betting on college football opportunity for the Wolverines.  Along the same lines UM will host the Buckeyes at the Big House this year.  Correspondingly pressure will be higher than ever.  Because the question will be “If not now, WHEN?”

New Offense

Equally important is a change in offensive philosophy.  Michigan’s biggest offshore betting weakness was a lack of explosiveness.  Counter to many reviews it was not a bad offense.  Comparable to other teams it was simply not as dynamic.  Harbaugh preferred to pound opponents into submission.  And it worked except when Michigan face an equal or better opponent.  Josh Gattis arrives from Alabama as new offensive coordinator.  In sum, Harbaugh has promised Gattis full control and authority.  Nonetheless doubters remain about how long that will last.  Furthermore. Harbaugh has not recruited for the up-tempo offense of Gattis.

Is Michigan Ready to Explode?

Gattis may have made a perfectly timed move.  Michigan does boast a capable lineup of players.  First, quarterback Shea Patterson proved to be an asset in 2018.  With more creative and throwing freedom under Gattis he should thrive.  Donovan Peoples Jones and Nico Collins stand to be the top 1-2 receiving combination in the Big Ten.  Comparable to that air attack is a running game that faces questions.  To illustrate the new offense is not based on power running.  Top back Karan Higdon is gone.  And Chris Evans suspension for academic issues is potentially problematic.

Schedule Overview

Commencing with a home game against tough Army in week two is a tricky schedule.  September 21 at Wisconsin is no picnic.  Namely an October 19 game and likely “White Out” at Penn State is a worry.  Notre Dame visits on October 26 for a dandy.  Another land mine is Michigan State’s visit on November 16.  Subsequently the Ohio State game on November 30 will be a full blast pressure cooker.

Matchup to Watch

In this situation Michigan will have the superior roster in all but a couple of games.  Of great concern is the radical offensive changes.  Yet there is a sense that the Betting on college football stars are aligning up for Michigan.
