With the 2nd week of NCAA FB for the 2015 Regular Season upon us we take a look at the upcoming game on Saturday the 12th of September 2015 with the No. 18 Sooners of Oklahoma playing at the No. 21 Volunteers of Tennessee with the game being played at the Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee with kick-off at 6 PM ET.
The opening odds at SBG for those that Bet on College football has the Volunteers and the Sooners at PK and the Over/under on the game is at 61 ½. Both of these teams had opening weekend wins, and now in this week 2 of the regular season the face each other in a game which both seek to win. We wonder which team will be victorious and improve their top 25 ranking.
The Sooners junior QB B. Mayfield proved he should be the starter as he passed for 3 TD’s and at total of 389 yards in that game. He also beat the record of S. Bradford of 2007 for opening game passing yardage of 363 yards. That performance certainly improved his odds for being a Heisman candidate in 2015.
In the Sooner’s new offense their RB J. Mixon benefited as he had 3 receptions for 118 yards, one of which was a 76 yard TD completion, and as the team tended to pass more, Mixon only ran the ball some 5 times gaining 27 yards.
The Oklahoma defense also performed well this past Saturday as they only allowed the Zips some 225 yards on offense, and just a single field goal in that 1st game. The total passing yardage for Akron was a mere 89 yards for the game. The defense of the Sooners will get a bigger challenge this week against a power full Volunteer offense on Saturday.
For the Volunteers of Tennessee fans, your team performed well in opening weekend, but more was expected from the team that finally got a win as a ranked team since back in 2008 when this past Saturday they played and beat the Falcon of Bowling Green 59-30.
Tennessee routed the Falcons with 6 TD’s from their running game, with their sophomore RB’s as RB J. Hurd scored 3 times in the 1st half of the game and rushed for 125 yards, while Al Kamara rushed for 2 TD’s with 15 carries and a 145 yards rushing. This was incredible as the last time the Volunteers had 2 RB’s with 100 plus yard games, was back in the 2009 season.
The Tennessee QB J. Dobbs also had a great game as he passed for 2 TD’s and 207 yards and also ran for a TD and rushed for 90 yards himself. But with all the praise given the Sooner’s offense, their defense receive a lot of scrutiny, as the allowed the Falcon to accumulate 558 yards of offense, even as the Sooners defense had 3 sacks and a forced fumble in the game. The Falcons QB M. Johnson also was able to complete passes for 425 yards and 2 TD’s in the game.
This game on Saturday the 12th of September 2015 will be their 1st true opening game at home, and we can expect more encouragement from their fans, as the entire Tennessee fan base will be at the Neyland Stadium on this Saturday, but the Volunteer defense needs to be prepared as they come up against 1 of the best and versatile offenses in NCAA FB this 2015 season.
The expert predicts that the Sooners will exploit the secondary of the Volunteers and have a tough win in this week 2 game as the final score will be Oklahoma 38 and Tennessee 31 for this game.
