At Oklahoma State, Mike Gundy is the ultimate Cowboy. He was a Cowboy quarterback in his playing days. And then the most successful head coach in program history. Oklahoma State has become an attractive brand with the college football odds. However, Gundy is not always fully appreciated by the Cowboy faithful. Even his athletic director has taken shots at his recruiting not being up to par with rival Oklahoma. But Gundy is the GOAT of Oklahoma State Coaches. Further, he is a 2-time Big 2 Coach of the year and was national coach of the year in 2011.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have always operated in the shadow of their arch-rival Oklahoma Sooners. In fact, the intrastate rivalry between the two schools has been dominated by Oklahoma in a lopsided manner. Oklahoma has an offshore betting record of 90-19-7 against Oklahoma State.
Mike Gundy has a career-winning percentage of .684 in 17 seasons as the Oklahoma State head coach. That is the best performance since Pappy Waldorf in the early 1930s. Since 2006, Gundy has led the Cowboys to a bowl game every season. Gundy has led OSU to seven double-digit win seasons in the past 12 years. Since 2008 the Cowboys have finished in the final national top 25 rankings nine times.
Despite operating as the little brother of Oklahoma, the Cowboys have had plenty of great players come through their program. Barry Sanders won the 1988 Heisman Trophy and went on to star for the Detroit Lions. Other great Cowboys of the past include Mason Rudolph, Matt Fodge, Justin Blackmon, James Washington, and Dan Bailey.
2022 Oklahoma State Cowboys – SBG Odds Overview
Last year the Cowboys finished 12-2, ranked 7th in the nation. OSU won a thrilling Fiesta Bowl triumph against Notre Dame. That College football betting odds performance will be hard to replicate in 2022.
In turn, Oklahoma State showed a different look en route to a 12-win season last fall. The Cowboys dominated opponents regularly with defense. Normally, the offense was the catalyst for OSU’s success.
Now Oklahoma State seeks to affirm that that strong defense is here to stay. Mike Gundy will attempt to pair a dominant defense up with a high-octane offense to stake a claim as a Big 12 favorite.
Last year the Cowboys posted the most impressive wins in the league, topping Oklahoma, Texas, and Baylor. But Baylor scored revenge in the conference championship game in a thriller. And, of course, OSU had its landmark bowl win over the Fighting Irish in the Fiesta Bowl.
Oklahoma State’s top reason for optimism revolves around quarterback Spencer Sanders. Specifically, Sanders is a senior who delivered in most of the major moments in the 2022 season. Sanders earned Fiesta Bowl MVP honors. In sum, he passed for 2,839 yards and added 668 rushing yards in leading the Cowboys’ attack. Sanders is one of three Oklahoma State quarterbacks to total more than 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a career.
As he removes the label of being erratic, Sanders continues to strive to improve both on the field and as a leader. But he’ll need an infusion of help on the offensive line and at running back.
