Pittsburgh Panthers NCAA Odds

NCAA odds saw the Pittsburgh Panthers go 5-7 straight up and 6-4 against the NCAA football odds in 2007. The NCAA odds on Pittsburgh could be looking up in 2008 as the team is coming off the upset of West Virginia in the last game of 2007 and the emergence of running back LeSean McCoy. The team went 3-7 in terms of over/unders versus the NCAA football odds. NCAA odds saw the Pittsburgh defense keep them in most games as they ranked 7th nationally.

The offense was poor and did not put up enough points to win games on a regular basis versus the NCAA football college odds. The offensive player of the year according to NCAA odds stats was RB LeSean McCoy. The defensive player of the year according to NCAA football odds number was LB Scott McKillop.

The biggest win of the season for Pittsburgh was the 13-9 upset of West Virginia. The team could also have won against Rutgers but didn’t get any breaks late in the game. For some reason head coach Dave Wannstedt still has a job at Pittsburgh. The Panthers have continually disappointed under Wannstedt according to NCAA odds experts but he is getting another year and expectations are high. The team returns RB LeSean McCoy and a defense that should again impact NCAA odds. The problem is the offense beyond McCoy is weak. Pat Bostick can’t throw the ball and the offensive line loses three starters. It could be that Bill Stull or Kevan Smith gets the quarterbacking job according to NCAA odds experts.

If Pittsburgh is to take a step up in NCAA odds the offense must improve. They were 108th in total yards and 92nd in points scored in 2007 according to NCAA football odds stats. It is unlikely the defense will be as good. Improving upon the 5th ranked defense in yards allowed according to NCAA odds stats will be tough. Surprisingly the defense was only 43rd in points allowed according to NCAA odds stats but that can probably be attributed to a rotten offense continually putting them in bad field position.
