San Francisco Bowl Betting Preview & Odds: Oregon vs. Michigan State

Redbox Bowl Michigan State Spartans vs. Oregon Ducks

At the beginning of the 2018 season Michigan State was touted as Big Ten title material.  However, the Spartans lacked the overall talent to compete with teams such as Ohio State and Michigan.  Most important of all MSU proved unable to provide gamblers with Betting on college football value.  Balanced against a strong Spartans defense was a plodding and unproductive offense.  Oregon is a team on the rise.  While not in the top tier for 2018 head coach Mario Cristobal is hauling in a top recruiting class.  That being said the Ducks were also a poor board value.

Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State enters Redbox Bowl action with poor betting on college football Value.  To show the Spartans finished 7-5 straight up but 4-8 vs. the odds with 4-8 under the total.  State failed to pay in their last three games of the season.  And Sparty stayed under the total in their final seven games.  Michigan State slogged through a 14-10 home win over Rutgers in their season finale as 24-point overlays.  Of great concern was a terrible offense that dragged down the Spartans.  MSU had national rankings of 123rd for scoring offense and 14th for points allowed.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon was also a weak offshore betting value this season.  Overall the Ducks were 8-4 straight up but just 4-8 vs. the line with 5-6-1 under the total.  However, the Ducks finished well with three wins in their final four games.  And just one of their last four games went under the total.  Oregon was a highly effective offensive team that ranked 17th in the nation for scoring.  Contrarily their defense ranked 63rd in the nation.  Quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 2985 yards and 28 touchdown passes.  Additionally, Dillon Mitchell had 1114 receiving yards and nine TD’s.

Stats to Consider

Michigan State has been an effective betting value as a road dog.  As an example, the Spartans have lost just four of their last 13 games getting points away from home.  Five of their last seven in that role have gone under the total.  Contrarily Oregon has been a decided overlay laying points on the road.  To show the Ducks have paid in just three of their last eight laying the lumber away from Eugene.  Five of their last six in that situation have gone under the total.

Team vs. Team

Certainly, Oregon’s explosive offense begin with quarterback Justin Herbert.  The junior signal caller threw for 2985 yards with 28 touchdowns.  Herbert’s top target was Dillon Mitchell.  To illuminate Mitchell had 1114 yards receiving with nine TD’s.

Matchup to Watch

It is true that Oregon has the superior offense in this matchup.  Balanced against that is the superior Michigan State defense.  As mentioned earlier the Spartans also bring Betting on college football value as road dogs.  On this occasion laying points with Oregon looks risky.
