South Carolina Seeks Next Step Under Beamer in 2023

South Carolina Seeks Next Step Under Beamer in 2023

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer led the Gamecocks to a surprisingly good season as a rookie in 2021. To show, the Gamecocks finished 7-6. And they won the Duke’s Mayo Bowl after going 2-8 in the previous campaign. Beamer talked a big game when he arrived in Columbia. Correlate that he backed it up with a College Football Betting season far better than expected. And then Beamer followed that up with an 8-5 bowl campaign in 2022. As a result of that strong start, the expectations are much higher for Beamer and his South Carolina program.

2023 South Carolina Gamecocks Preview

Overall, South Carolina’s recruiting is improved. Still, it is nowhere near the online betting level of the top teams in the SEC. But Beamer has been fearless about his vision of turning South Carolina into a consistent winner.
Shane Beamer knew he would only be judged by how many games he won. In the same way, he also knew that College Football Betting wins would be hard to come by early in his tenure. Knowing he couldn’t immediately worry about victories, he had to rebuild passion for the program. Beamer did that in surprisingly short order. Indeed, the Gamecocks won. Not against the teams like Georgia or Clemson that USC wants to beat. But they won and went to bowl games. Thus, the passion of the fans and players returned.

Wins over Tennessee and Clemson helped South Carolina finish on a high note in the second season under coach Shane Beamer. Now the Gamecocks aim to step forward in the SEC East this fall. Certainly, they have the pieces to build on last year’s momentum. Quarterback Spencer Rattler and receiver Juice Wells lead a dynamic passing game under new coordinator Dowell Loggains. Addressing the offensive line and rushing attack remains a priority going into the fall.

Meanwhile, South Carolina’s defense lost key contributors at every level and returned only four starters for 2023. This unit may take some time to mesh. Hence, Rattler and the offense must lead the way against a challenging schedule early on.

There’s a lot to like about the Beamer program. However, the Gamecocks lost a lot of talent. The schedule is, again, daunting. It features just three home games in the first two months. Also, it demands trips to Missouri, who has four straight wins over USC, and Texas A&M, a team the Gamecocks are 1-8 against all-time. Yet the Gamecocks are at home the entire month of November. Head coach Shane Beamer won seven games in Year 1, then improved to 8-5 in 2022. With major cogs of his offense back, don’t bet against more improvement.

The Gamecocks have had moments of glory. Especially under former head coach Steve Spurrier. The Old Ball Coach led USC to three consecutive 11-win seasons. And a berth in the SEC championship game. But the Gamecocks have never come close to winning the SEC championship.
