Texas Longhorns vs. Michigan Wolverines NCAAF Betting Odds & Picks (09-07-2024)

Last week, the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines opened their season at home against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Previously, former head coach Jim Harbaugh was originally supposed to serve as the honorary team captain. However, that was canceled after massive College Football odds outrage over Harbaugh’s show cause penalty with the NCAA. Michigan was able to get past Fresno State but failed to get the money in an underwhelming performance. This week, Michigan will host the Texas Longhorns on Fox Big Noon. The Wolverines will have to step up their game against a strong Texas program.

Michigan Wolverines Team Overview

Last game, the Michigan Wolverines won 30-10 against the Fresno State Bulldogs as 20.5-point home favorites. The game went under the total of 46.5. Michigan has a record of 1-0 straight up, 0-1 against the spread, and 0-1 over/under the total.

Sherrone Moore pumped his fist and screamed in the end zone, firing up fans in the Big House before his first game as Jim Harbaugh’s full-time replacement. However, the defending national champions were sluggish on offense in much of Moore’s debut. Finally, Michigan made plays on both sides of the ball to turn a closely contested game into a lopsided win.

Davis Warren and Alex Orji each threw touchdown passes. And then Will Johnson returned an interception for a score. The Wolverines were introducing new quarterbacks behind a revamped offensive line and Moore. The Bulldogs came to play and trailed by just four points deep into the second quarter. Late on, it was 16-10 midway through the fourth before Michigan pulled away. Warren, who beat out Orji to start at quarterback, threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Colston Loveland. As a result it gave Michigan a 23-10 lead with 5:43 left. Will Johnson picked off a pass on the ensuing possession and returned it 86 yards.

The game opened with Orji throwing a 3-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Warren, but Moore’s team didn’t have a smooth night until late in the game. In sum, Davis was 15 of 25 for 118 yards with a touchdown and an interception, a solid showing from a former walk-on who overcame leukemia in high school. Meanwhile, Loveland, a preseason All-America tight end, had a career-high eight catches and fell a yard short of another career-high with 87 yards.

Six offensive linemen from last year’s UM team landed in NFL training camps this summer. Thus, they were turning a strength into a weakness. The Wolverines were unable to create holes for the running game. Also, they didn’t give their quarterbacks much time to throw until wearing down the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter.
