Last year was the first SMU 10-win season since 1984. Coach Sonny Dykes has always been known for prolific passing attacks. Quarterback Shane Buechele found the perfect offense to fit his skill set. Dykes found the right QB to plug into his playbook. SMU finished with a nice betting on College Football profit in 2019. Further, the Mustangs peaked at 15th in the national rankings. It was a tremendous resurgence of the famed “Death Penalty” program. By contrast, Texas State has wallowed with three wins or less for five straight seasons. Bobcat fans are still dreaming of their first bowl.

SMU Mustangs vs. Texas State Bobcats SBG Odds Overview
Of course, the Mustangs are a big public offshore betting choice. Many casual college football gamblers don’t even know Texas State exists. There is no record of success. Or national recognition. Counter to that is a Mustangs team that caught national attention in 2019. SMU’s success and high national climb made headlines. So did a Saturday Night national TV game at Memphis. Casual fans remember such things. Especially when such teams are playing a “nobody.” Second-year coach Jake Spavital is unknown compared to Dykes.
SMU Mustangs Team Overview
Senior quarterback Shane Buechele is a transfer from Texas. Correlate how Dykes drew out his ability. Buechele posted a 148.8 passer rating with 3939 yards and a 34/10 touchdown to interception ratio. WR Reggie Roberson Jr averaged 18.7 yards per catch with six touchdowns last year. TE Kyle Granson is an All-Conference candidate after catching 43 passes for 16.8 yards per catch and nine TDs.
Texas State Bobcats Team Overview
Coach Jake Spavital inherited a real mess of a program taking over in 2019. He has nowhere near the talent level of SMU and needs time to build his own roster and culture. Presently he is playing shorthanded.
