At the onset of the 2022 college football season, the Houston Cougars were one of the hottest brands on the future market. Houston was a top pick to win the American Athletic Conference. Instead, the Cougars stumbled out of the gate with losses to the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Kansas Jayhawks. Two teams that head coach Dana Holgorsen was supposed to beat. Holgorsen was hired after Houston administrators bragged that they fired 8-win football coaches. Now, Holgorsen may not get the mandatory six College Football odds wins for a minor bowl bid.
