Tulane Meets Louisiana in Betting on College Football Bowl Matchup

AutoNation Cure Bowl Tulane Green Wave vs. Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns

On the whole the college football bowl system does draw a lot of criticism.  And much of it is justified.  There are a lot of bowl games and mediocre teams playing in them.  But don’t deride the bowl system to the Tulane Green Wave.  Tulane gambled on a two-point conversion late to beat Navy 29-28 in the season finale.  The celebration and emotion that followed reminded all what is good about the bowl games.  While Tulane is a .500 Betting on college football squad, they are thrilled to be in the post season.

Tulane Green Wave

Tulane has a betting on college football record of 6-6 straight up, 5-7 against the spread, and 3-9 under the total.  Late in the season did the Green Wave rally impressively to make this bowl. Tulane won four of its last five games straight up to save the year.  Extending that success was an American Athletic Conference record of 5-3.  Account of mediocre metrics is why Tulane had such a close call with the post season.  The Green Wave has national rankings of 94th for scoring offense and 73rd for points allowed.

Willie Fritz

In his third year on the job head coach Willie Fritz has again established his reputation as a turnaround artist.  On the whole this is Tulane’s first bowl since 2013 and just the second since 2002.  Compared to most programs Tulane is one of the more difficult jobs in college football and Fritz deserves credit for ending the success drought.

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns

Louisiana has an offshore bookmakers mark of 7-6 straight up, 9-4 vs. the line, and 7-6 over the total.  Last time out the Ragin’ Cajuns lost the Sun Belt championship game to Appalachian State 30-19.  Louisiana ranks 39th in the country for scoring offense but 104th for points allowed.  This is the sixth time in eight seasons that Louisiana will go to a bowl.  At the same time this has been a successful debut for first year head coach Billy Napier.

Stats to Consider

Louisiana is led by the running back tandem of Trey Ragas and Elijah Mitchell.  Specifically, Ragas rushed for 1141 yards and 5.8 yards per carry with eight touchdowns.  Mitchell ran for 951 yards with 6.8 yards per carry and 12 touchdowns.  Similarly, Tulane emphasizes a strong ground attack too.  In the same way the Green Wave uses a tandem of Darius Bradwell and Corey Dauphine.  Bradwell rushed for 984 yards, 5.9 yards per carry and nine touchdowns.  And Dauphine added 754 rushing yards with 6.5 yards per carry with seven touchdowns.

Matchup to Watch

This matchup edge here goes to Louisiana based on their superior offense.  While Tulane is to be commended for making a bowl the fact remains, they aren’t a strong team.  Louisiana is more of a regular as far as Betting on college football Bowl appearances and won their division this season.
