USC Blasted by Boston College – Shocking Upset

This past week I did a review of the No. 6 ranked team thru the No. 10 ranked teams of which No.9 USC was the second of two of those teams to be upset over the weekend, with the first being No. 6 the Georgia Bulldogs. Let’s take a look at what went wrong for the Trojans in their matchup with Boston College.

The No.9 USC Trojans 2-1 (Pac-12 South) played the Boston College Eagles 2-1 (ACC Atlantic) at the Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and the Eagles upset the Trojans 37-31 as Boston outgained the Trojans by some 432 yards in the upset. The USC Trojans were favored in the game at -17 and the over/under was 51 which turned out to be a bad line if you were betting on USC.

If we look at the game statistics, in first downs it was close with USC 18 and BC 19 and in total yards BC had 506 to USC’s 337. In the passing game, USC had 317 yards while BC had 54. Rushing yards was another tale as USC had 20 yards and BC 452.

After the game the BC fans stormed onto the field in a crazy celebration as this win was the first Boston College victor over a top ten team in the last decade since back in 2004 when they beat 10th ranked West Virginia. The coach for the Eagles after the game awarded a game ball to QB Murphy for leading his team to this victory. QB Murphy didn’t have his best game passing with 5 for 13 for 54 yards and 1 interception, but the dual-threat QB carried the ball 13 times for 191 yards and a TD. All 5 TDs for the Eagles game from their running game with 4 of the five players who had carries in the game scoring the 5 TDs with Hillman scoring twice. Their 5 receivers had 5 receptions for 54 yards and no TDs. QB Murphy with 3:30 left in the game broke away for 66 yards and a TD that clinched the win over USC.

Prior to this game the Southern California had never lost a game to Boston College and now head back home to regroup and continue with their Pac-12 conference schedule and their goal is still winning the conference championship since this was a non-conference game. The USC running game did not exist in this game as the gained a measly 20 yards on the ground on 29 carries by the RB’s. The Trojans came into the game with the momentum of beating Stanford in their last game and QB Kessler completed 31 of 41 passing attempts for 4 TDs and was sacked 5 times in the process.

The scoring in this game between the Trojans and Eagles was somewhat sporadic, with No. 9 USC taking a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and scored seven points in the 2nd quarter. The Eagles were scoreless in the first and then scored 20 points in the second quarter to lead a half-time 20-17. USC was scoreless in the third quarter and scored 14 in the final fourth quarter, while BC scored 7 in the third and 10 in the fourth to win upset USC Trojans 37-31.

I hope all you Trojans and Eagles fans who bet on college football will take a look at the odds offered by SBG Global as they are as competitive as can be in the industry of sports wagering!
