Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham is an alum and former player with the BYU Cougars. But life has taken him on a path to become the GOAT of Utah Utes head coaches. Of course, Utah and BYU were hated arch-rivals, with their annual game known as the “Holy War.” A College Football betting series that Whittingham has held a strong upper hand in, by the way. Sadly, conference realignment has put that rivalry on hold. Next year, it will resume with both schools joining the Big 12 Conference.

2023 Utes Preview
Namely, Kyle Whittingham transformed Utes from the Mountain West Conference to the Pac-12 Conference. In 2021, the Utes won their first Pac-12 championship. As a result, their reward was a berth in the granddaddy of them all: the Rose Bowl. On New Year’s Day 2022, it seemed as if half of Utah was in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl. Although Utah lost the game to Ohio State 48-45, it was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Whittingham led Utah to its greatest online betting moment. And then, in 2022, Utah ran it back with a second Rose Bowl berth.
Now, the Utah program is confused, though through no fault of its own. In July, the Pac-12 was informed that its two Los Angeles-based marquee brands, the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins, were moving on to the Big Ten Conference in 2024. Next College Football Betting season, Utah announced they are bolting for the Big 12.
Utah was negotiating to join the Big 12 Conference with other potential Pac-12 refugees, such as the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, and the Colorado Buffaloes. Cause by the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies bolted to the Big Ten last month.
Now a third straight Pac-12 title is within reach for Utah and coach Kyle Whittingham. The Utes return 14 starters. But the health of quarterback Cameron Rising is crucial after suffering a torn ACL in the Rose Bowl loss to Penn State. Running back Ja’Quinden Jackson is a rising star. At the same time, the return of tight end Brant Kuithe from injury is a huge boost to the passing game.
As usual, Utes will be strong on defense. Thus, if Rising is healthy and plays every game, another Pac-12 title and a CFB Playoff push is a reasonable expectation in ’23. However, if Rising isn’t healthy or is delayed in his return, the expectations change against a rugged schedule. At the beginning is a home game with Florida. Following the Gators is a road game at Baylor.
The Utah Utes have never won a national championship but boast 25 conference titles. Utah has posted double-digit win seasons in their last two fully scheduled campaigns. Whittingham has had seven double-digit win seasons since 2008, leading Utah to a national ranking of 2nd that year. The Utes are in their greatest era of glory, and the best may yet be coming.
