This past Thursday, the No. 20 Utah Utes now 5-1 (2nd Pac 12 South) took on the unranked, but always a threat, Oregon State Beavers now 4-2 (5th Pac 12 North). The game was decided in the second overtime with the Utes victorious 29-23.
Looking at the statistics of the game, the Beavers had the advantage in total yards, passing yardage while the Utes were strong in the rushing yardage. The Beavers had 20 first downs and 391 total yards offensively, with 272 passing and 119 rushing yards with 2 turnovers and ball possession for some 34:22 minutes. The Utes made 16 first downs with 315 total yards, with 62 passing and 253 rushing with 2 turnovers and possession of the ball for 25.38 minutes of the game, but still won in the 2nd OT.
The offensive leaders at Utah were QBs Wilson & Thompson who combined completing 9 of 18 passes for 62 yards with 1 interception. RB’s Booker & Thompson had 41 carries combined for 249 yards with Booker scoring 3 touchdowns, while Receivers Andersen & Patrick had 6 receptions for a combined 54 yards.
Leading offensively for the Beavers QB Mannion completed 21 of 37 passes for 272 yards with 2 touchdowns, and intercepted once. RB’s Ward & Woods had 32 combined carries for 116 yards, while Receivers Villamin & Bolden combined had 7 receptions for 158 yards with Villamin scoring 2 touchdowns.
The star of the game for the Utes was RB Booker, who had 3 touchdowns for the game on 229 yards, with a 19 yard run in the 2nd OT that gave the win 29-23 to Utah over Oregon State this past Thursday evening in Corvallis, Oregon. He also ran for a 15 yard TD in the 1st OT which put them in the lead 23-16. Then the Beavers responded with their QB Mannion throwing a 2 yard TD to receiver Villamin which tied the score, forcing the 2nd OT.
With the game ending regulation time with the tie scored 16-16. Then in the first OT the Utes, after 5 plays, scored on the Booker 15 yard TD dash to put Utah up 23-16. Then the Beaver scored on a drive of 5 yards that concluded with Villamin receiving a 2 yard pass from QB Mannion for a TD and tying the score again 23-23, and on to the 2nd OT. The 2nd OT was short lived for the Beavers, as Utah had 3 plays and on the 3rd play RB Booker scored from 19 yards for a TD and the win 29-23.
The Beavers now 4-2, play at the No. 23 Sanford Cardinals 4-2 (1st Pac 12 North) on Saturday Oct. 25th, 2014 at Stanford Stadium at 3:30 PM ET. The No.20 Utes now 5-1 at home, play the now No.23 USC Trojans 4-2 (1st Pac 12 South) at the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah also on the 25th of October at 10 PM ET.
