UTEP Miners vs. Oklahoma Sooners NCAAF Betting Odds (09-03-2022)

Few teams were in the news this offseason like the Oklahoma Sooners. At the beginning was the fallout of a rare College Football betting loss to Oklahoma State. Head coach Lincoln Riley shocked the world by leaving OU for the USC Trojans. And Riley took quarterback Caleb Williams with him. Additionally, he pirated more key players and assistant coaches from OU. There is a belief that Nobody leaves Oklahoma voluntarily. But Riley saw the SEC future and determined it didn’t work. Thus, Brent Venables has returned home to Norman.

UTEP at Oklahoma SBG Odds Overview

On the whole, Oklahoma is the vastly more popular offshore betting brand. Most casual gamblers associate UTEP with losing and weakness. And the Miners’ improvement in 2021 is only known by sharps. By contrast, Oklahoma is one of the biggest brands on the board. And it has been that way for decades.

UTEP Miners Team Overview

The UTEP Miners were one of the best stories of 2021. UTEP was a program that hadn’t had any success for so many years. Further, they went 5-27 in three seasons under head coach Dana Dimel. But in 2021, the Miners became a good team. Consider that their seven wins and a bowl appearance made the best season since 2014. UTEP won two more games in one year than the previous four combined.

It hasn’t been easy to come up with any success at UTEP. Of great concern is that success has never been sustained there. But this year’s team is loaded with all-stars from 2021. Now the Miners have depth. Also, they have the confidence of a winner. UTEP should be better in 2022. But it will be a fight to get back to another winning season and bowl game. The surprise element is gone.

Oklahoma Sooners Team Overview

Former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables is the new head coach. Venables represents more of a salute to former head coach Bob Stoops than Lincoln Riley. Stoops came to OU as a coveted young defensive coordinator. And he turned the offense over to Mike Leach in that rookie campaign. Indeed, the Oklahoma offense was great. But the Sooners won the national title in 2002 with a dominant defense.

And then came Lincoln Riley. He was the creative young offensive star who lit up the scoreboard. However, his defense was defenseless. Now, offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby arrives from Ole Miss. Consider that the Rebels led the SEC in total offense. But Ole Miss was 12th in the nation in rushing and 118th in time of possession. Indeed they used a fast-paced offense that would wear out defenses. Both the opponent’s and their own.

Both of the top Oklahoma quarterbacks transferred to USC. So in comes Dillon Gabriel from UCF. He’s not Williams, but he’s a potentially perfect fit. Gabriel is an experienced playmaker who’ll crank up massive numbers.

UTEP has covered seven of its last ten College Football Betting matchups. Of great concern is all of the coaching and lineup turnover for Oklahoma. That makes covering a season opener quite difficult. Also, Oklahoma will be overpriced.
