Will Texas A&M Aggies Yell in Glory or Send Jimbo Packing in 2023?

Will Texas A&M Aggies Yell in Glory or Send Jimbo Packing in 2023

At the onset of the 2023 College Football Betting season are plenty of opinions on head coach Jimbo Fisher’s tenure at Texas A&M. One train of thought is that Fisher has not come close to living up to expectations. In comparison, he is at the same level as his predecessor Kevin Sumlin. Counter to that is the long view that Fisher is recruiting at a record level. Thus, these gamblers believe he will soon have a roster stocked for a serious national championship run. Or perhaps it is a bit of both.

2023 Texas A&M Aggies Preview

Fisher and the Aggies posted an 8-4 offshore betting record in 2021 and 4-4 in the SEC. On the positive, Texas A&M beat Alabama to make Fisher the first Nick Saban assistant to beat their mentor. However, there were losses to the Arkansas Razorbacks, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, and LSU Tigers. All four of those teams were rated under the Aggies.

Still, A&M was considered a College Football Betting program on the upswing. But then came a 5-7 disaster in 2022. As a result, calls for Fisher’s head followed. Such inconsistent highs and lows are part of building a champion. But it is fair to say that most fans and donors believe Fisher should be further along after five seasons at the helm. Especially when taking into account his massive contract.

When Fisher arrived at College Station, donors presented him with a very expensive pair of boots. Additionally, they gave Fisher a national championship trophy on the come in anticipation of titles to come. However, none arrived as of yet. Indeed, the dreams of national championships that Texas A&M enjoyed when it hired head coach Jimbo Fisher may not be realized.

Three seasons ago, the Aggies beat every opponent but Alabama. In 2021, they defeated the Crimson Tide. Next, the Aggies’ goal was to finish ahead of Alabama in the grueling SEC West Division race. Instead, they resided in the SEC West basement with Auburn. Texas A&M was one of college football’s biggest disappointments in 2022. Yet a quick rebound could be for coach Jimbo Fisher’s squad.

The Aggies have talent on an offense that features a rising star quarterback in Conner Weigman. Also, two of the SEC’s top receivers are Evan Stewart and Ainias Smith. Also, adding veteran play-caller Bobby Petrino will aid in Weigman’s development and the overall production of the offense.

Last season, Texas A&M’s defense struggled mightily against the run. But, like the offense, this unit should have a reason for optimism with promising young talent at all three levels. Gamblers believe it is ready to step up in 2023.

The last great era of Texas A&M football was under RC Slocum from 1989 through 1999. Accordingly, Slocum led the Aggies to five double-digit win seasons in that span with three top-eight or better finishes. In 2012 head coach Kevin Sumlin caught lightning in a bottle. To illuminate, Sumlin rode Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel to an 11-2 record and a final ranking of 5th in the nation.
