The Virginia Tech Hokies and the West Virginia Mountaineers will kick off their NCAA football betting season battling for the Black Diamond Trophy, but there’ll be more Atlantic Coast Conference-related football action to enjoy involving the likes of the Louisville Cardinals and the Purdue Boilermakers and the NC State Wolfpack and the South Carolina Gamecocks. All in all it will be an action-packed weekend for fans of the ACC conference.

Virginia Tech and West Virginia have not met in a football field since the Hokies defeated the ‘Neers 34-17 on October 1, 2005 at Morgantown, West Virginia. V-Tech will enter the season as a ranked team in the Associated Press preseason poll (21) for the first time since 2012, and will face another ranked school for the first time since 2011. WV is ranked 22 in the AP poll. West Virginia leads the all-time series between the two programs 28-22-1, but Virginia Tech has won the last two games and six of the last eight. “I think it’s a game that needs to be played as often as possible because you’re the next state over and we both have great fan bases,” former VT head coach Frank Beamer said.

Even though Purdue quarterback David Blough strained his shoulder during a scrimmage on August 12th, he was not expected to miss the season opener. Whether or not he was expected to share it, that’s most likely what we’ll get. “I feel multiple guys are going to play,” first-year head coach Jeff Brohm said Thursday per the Journal & Courier. Elijah Sindelar is getting the first-team snaps and will probably start against Louisville.
Speaking of which, the Cardinals have the fourth happiest fanbase in the NCAA according to ESPN, mostly due to 2016 Heisman Trophy winner and Associated Press Player of the Year Lamar Jackson.

Not unlike the Florida Gators, North Carolina State has been struggling with discipline issues. As a result, two players have been dismissed three others have been suspended ahead of the game against the Gamecocks. Freshmen Antoine Thompson, Kevince Brown, Isaiah Moore, Erin Collins, and Xavier Lyas were all part of an investigation of sexual assault allegations stemming from a party on the campus in July.
And speaking of revolting spectacles, South Carolina’s defense, which will play as many as nine first-year defensive players against NC State, is not going to be a pretty sight. “You never really know how they are going to respond, how they are going to react,” second-year head coach Will Muschamp said. Like Kirk Cameron, “they are going to go through some growing pains.”
