Last season brought the necessity of coaching changes for several NFL clubs. Perhaps the most notable change was Marvin Lewis and the Cincinnati Bengals parting ways after 16 seasons. Mike McCarthy of Green Bay was another high-profile firing. Less surprising were such firings as Hue Jackson at Cleveland and Vance Joseph at Denver. Another understandable change was Dirk Koetter being let go at Tampa Bay. Namely the Arizona Cardinals made the most out of the box hiring in NFL betting. Kliff Kingsbury takes over the Cards after being fired as failed head coach at Texas Tech.
2019 NFL New Head Coaches and Betting Factors
Kliff Kingsbury – Arizona Cardinals
Namely Kliff Kingsbury was the most surprising hire in NFL betting. Arizona figured that Kingsbury would be a perfect fit for top draft pick Kyler Murray. Last year Murray won the Heisman Trophy as Oklahoma quarterback. Kingsbury is celebrated as one of the top offensive minds in the game. Yet the fact remains he never got the Texas Tech program going. Tech was often sloppy under his leadership. To many this hire looks like a reach.
Zac Taylor – Cincinnati Bengals
On the whole it was time for Marvin Lewis to go. Cincinnati grew stale under his leadership. However, the Bengals offshore bookmaker problems were far deeper than the head coach. Cincinnati lacks the quality roster to be taken seriously as a bona fide playoff contender. Lewis led the Bengals to seven playoff appearances but never won a game. Now Taylor takes over a tough task and team that failed to make the playoffs the past three seasons.
Matt LaFleur – Green Bay Packers
Fashion this hiring that could be the most impactful for NFL betting. By all accounts Mike McCarthy and quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a toxic falling out. Rodgers ignored McCarthy at the end and the coach came off as entitled and full of his own glory. LaFleur is a young new face and connected to the Sean McVay coaching tree. With a fresh approach the disgruntled Rodgers could Improve upon his 97.6 rating of 2018.
Adam Gase – New York Jets
No NFL team is as totally mismanaged as the New York Jets. Take the case of their recent head coaching change. Adam Gase lost considerable credibility when he flopped out with the Dolphins. Miami fired him on December 31. Yet the Jets immediately hired Gase less than two weeks later. To begin with there is a myth that Gase is an offensive mastermind and quarterback guru. Miami obviously didn’t see it that way. The Gase hiring is indicative of a franchise that has not been to the Super Bowl since January of 1969.
Bruce Arians – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In brief Arians came out of retirement for the Bucs job. Specifically, he brings credibility as one of the few successful coaches in Arizona Cardinals history. Arians will be immediately charged with getting quarterback Jameis Winston’s mind right.
Freddie Kitchens – Cleveland Browns
At the beginning of this season the Browns are the trendy pick to make the playoffs. Kitchens did great work with quarterback Baker Mayfield as offensive coordinator last year. In comparison to past seasons optimism has reached new heights in Cleveland as a result of the hiring of Kitchens.
