To be exact, the Super Bowl was born in January of 1967. The Detroit Lions are yet to take the field for Super Sunday. Since 2000, the Lions have only three NFL betting odds playoff appearances. Namely, Matt Patricia is the latest flop as head coach. Dan Campbell replaces Patricia as the man that will slam his head against the wall. One constant through all of this misery has been the Ford Family. While the Ford’s are credited with having good intentions, the results are lacking. Gamblers will have to be shown that this time it will be different.

The last time Detroit winning an NFL championship was in 1957. Nine years before the NFL’s first Super Bowl campaign. The only time the Lions made the NFC championship game was in 1991. And then that was under head coach Wayne Fontes. The franchise has certainly had its share of top talent. Stars such as Lem Barney, Calvin Johnson, Alex Karras, Dick “Night Train” Lane, Bobby Layne, Dick LeBeau, Barry Sanders, Charlie Sanders, and Joe Schmidt all manned the marquee.
2021 Detroit Lions Team Overview
Dan Campbell played in the NFL from 1999 through 2009. Further, he played in 2006-2008 with the Lions. Previously, Campbell was the assistant head coach and tight ends coach of the New Orleans Saints. His connection to Sean Payton and a winning franchise was a major factor in his hiring. Once upon a time, Campbell was an interim head coach in 2015 with Miami and went 5-7.
General manager Brad Holmes takes over for the failed Bob Quinn. Previously, Holmes was director of college scouting for the Los Angeles Rams. His first major move was trading long-time Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff. To summarize, Stafford’s star-crossed Lions’ career lasted from 2009-2020.
Jared Goff has had a steep fall from being the first player taken in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Rams. Goff was named to the Pro Bowl in 2017 and 2018. Subsequently, Goff had a falling out with Rams head coach Sean McVay. McVay thought that Goff could play through some injuries that kept him out of the lineup. Goff didn’t quite see it that way. Now, Goff gets a fresh start with a new organization and coach.
Holmes received average marks for his first NFL Draft. The first choice was offensive tackle Penei Sewell of Oregon. Sewell went seventh overall and was an obvious but great pick. He’ll keep Goff protected for as long as they are together.
Last season the Lions were a defensive disaster in 2020, ranking 27th overall and 29th for points allowed. Aaron Glenn came with Campbell from the New Orleans Saints, where he was defensive backs coach.
2021 Detroit Lions Schedule Highlights
The first game action is a tough one at Ford Field against the San Francisco 49ers. The traditional Thanksgiving Day home game will be against the NFC North rival Chicago Bears. Detroit is often a popular Thanksgiving pick for Pro football Bets.
Overall, the Lions are a reasonable contrarian pick against the masses.
