At the onset of 2023, Head coach Brandon Staley was on the NFL odds hot seat. Following the Chargers’ season ended by blowing a 27-0 lead to the Jaguars in the playoffs. Ultimately, Los Angeles decided to stick with Staley for 2023. But don’t be surprised if the team decides to move on from him. Especially if the Chargers suffer a similar collapse mid-season. Staley got good marks until that debacle in Jacksonville. Of great concern is that it was the type of loss that teams don’t often recover from.

The Chargers and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will play their season sportsbook opener against the Miami Dolphins. Los Angeles has a chance to test how their new-look offense will operate immediately. Especially against what is anticipated to be among the top defensive units in the NFL.
Overall, the Chargers will be featured in six primetime matchups for a second consecutive year. That is barring any schedule flexing late in the season. Following a quiet offseason, the Chargers will have another chance to prove on the biggest stage that they can make a Super Bowl run. Their bye week will fall early in Week 5.
2023 Los Angeles Chargers Offseason Moves
Certainly, the Chargers have all the pieces you could reasonably want. The names on defense are well-known. And they even added a first-round receiver in Quentin Johnston to a top-10 offense. The hope for this team is less about talent. Their big offseason NFL betting odds addition is former Dallas offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. And they’ll hope he can deliver more consistent results than the frustrating offense we watched last year.
Namely, Quentin Johnston forced 19 missed tackles on just 60 receptions and averaged 17.8 yards per catch in 2022. Among the projected first-round wide receivers, Johnston led the way in yards after the catch per reception and missed tackles forced per reception. Correlate that he should be an instant contributor and add a vertical element to the team that has been missing for quite some time.
