49ers and Packers Highlight Week 12 Slate

One of the oldest rivalries in the NFL is between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. Yet this is an NFL odds rivalry built on mutual respect going back generations. When the American Football League and National Football League merged in 1970, three NFL teams had to transfer to the new American Football Conference. Cause of the need to even out the two conferences at 13 teams each. Cleveland volunteered to take one of the teams and go. But only if Pittsburgh would come with them. These days, the Browns are a hard team to figure out.

Week 12 Overview

Last year, Cleveland unexpectedly made the playoffs on the ancient arm of journeyman veteran Joe Flacco. This year, Flacco has moved on, and Deshaun Watson is the expected starter, with Jameis Winston the backup. Thus, Cleveland is not getting much love in the future market. In the same way, the Pittsburgh Steelers are facing plenty of sportsbook doubters by taking in the failed Denver Bronco QB Russell Wilson. Wilson has not been what he used to be for several seasons. Justin Fields was sent packing by the Chicago Bears. Of course, Chicago drafted him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and is now backing up Wilson.

The late afternoon window for Sunday has some attractive matchups, and none better than the San Francisco 49ers at the Green Bay Packers. Last year, the 49ers barely escaped with a 24-21 win over the Packers in the NFC Divisional Playoffs as 10.5-point home favorites.

The 49ers and Packers are full of NFL betting odds optimism heading into the 2024 campaign. Green Bay rallied to win its final three games to gain the 2023 NFC playoffs with new starting B Jordan Love. Meanwhile, Brock Purdy led the 49ers to the Super Bowl. In turn, they briefly led the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime before losing a heartbreaker. This year, it is Super Bowl or bust for the 49ers while the Packers are seeking to build on last year’s momentum.

The Denver Broncos will visit the Las Vegas Raiders in a renewal of an ancient rivalry that dates to 1960 and the founding of the American Football League. The Broncos and Raiders have shared the same division since the day they opened their doors for business. Concurrently, the expectations are that gamblers don’t know what to expect.

Kansas City is favored to maintain its AFC West dynasty. Since 2016, the Chiefs won the division every year. The Los Angeles Chargers are considered the top threat to the Chiefs because of new head coach Jim Harbaugh and QB Justin Herbert.

The question is if Denver or the Raiders have enough to make a run. Denver will be an interesting wild card with head coach Sean Payton. Also, number one draft pick Bo Nix arrives from Oregon and is being compared to Drew Brees. Of course, it was Brees and Payton that led the New Orleans Saints to their only Super Bowl championship.
