An Avalanche of excitement has hit Denver, Colorado. And not just for its Stanley Cup championship team. Following six consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs, the Broncos are remade. Specifically, Denver welcomes a new head coach and starting quarterback. Former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett arrives. And his timing is perfect with the NFL odds. Also coming is quarterback Russell Wilson, who made his fame with the Seattle Seahawks. Hackett helped Aaron Rodgers rewrite the Packers passing record book. A Championship Franchise Born Out of Hume Beginnings
The onset, Broncos were founded in 1960 as charter members of the American Football League. But the Broncos did not post a winning record until 1973. In the franchise’s early years, the Broncos were known for their hideous brown and yellow uniforms, including vertical socks.
Subsequently, when they went to orange and blue in the mid-1960s, the team was still bad. And ownership was short with a shoestring budget. The biggest claim to fame for the Broncos was their win over the Detroit Lions in a 1966 exhibition game. It was the first exhibition game between the AFL and NFL and a shocking upset. Still, it was a preseason offshore betting accomplishment.
Finally, success arrived in 1977. Led by the Orange Crush defense, Denver made the playoffs and its first Super Bowl in 1977. But the Broncos were routed by the Dallas Cowboys.
In 1983, the franchise’s fortunes changed forever with the arrival of first-round draft choice John Elway. Correlate that Elway rewrote the Broncos record book as a Hall of Fame quarterback. Elway and the Broncos lost three Super Bowls before finally winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 1997 and 1998. Elway walked off into the sunset as a 2-time champion. He remains a team executive.
Accordingly, Indianapolis Colt’s import Peyton Manning led the Broncos to two Super Bowls. Including their last Super Bowl championship in 2015. In like manner to Elway, he retired after the game. Since then, the Broncos have not had a credible NFL-betting odds quarterback. Until the arrival of Russell Wilson in 2022.
