Tampa Bay Buccaneers Has Not Earned 2024 Future Market Trust

Last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the biggest surprise with the NFL Betting Odds. At the onset of the 2023 season head coach Todd Bowls was on one of the hottest seats in the NFL. Bowles was forced to play a castoff quarterback, Baker Mayfield, which further scared off gamblers. However, Mayfield sparked a remarkable run that ended with an NFC South Division title. Additionally, the Bucs destroyed the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs. Despite that success and a new contract for Mayfield, Tampa Bay is not getting much future market love.

2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview

Last year, following Tom Brady’s second (and final) retirement, most national outlets projected the Bucs to be among the worst teams in the NFL. Instead, they won the NFC South for the third straight year. Tampa Bay made their fourth consecutive sportsbook trip to the playoffs and came within eight points of a trip to the NFC title game.

The Bucs are the only team in the NFC to win its division in the past three seasons. Correlate that they are primed to keep that streak going after retaining virtually all their key free agents. Namely, wide receiver Mike Evans, quarterback Baker Mayfield, linebacker Lavonte David, safety Antoine Winfield Jr., and kicker Chase McLaughlin.

The coaching staff and front office have effectively navigated the NFL football Betting transition between eras. Tampa Bay had a more successful season last year than they had with Brady in 2022. And head coach Todd Bowles has everything he needs to make the postseason for a third straight year since taking the reins from Bruce Arians.

The prime objective for the Bucs this offseason was to keep a good thing going. Overall, the key components are back together. Can the defense adequately fill the holes left by departing starters? And can they continue to improve from multiple young players? If so, the defense should still be a tough out for any offense with Bowles at the helm.

Certainly, Mayfield is coming off a career year. However, the expectations will be much higher for him to maintain that level of play now that he’s gotten paid accordingly. His familiarity with Coen and the continuity of his supporting cast should put him in a position to live up to the bar he reset for himself with a stellar 2023 campaign. The Bucs should still be the favorites to win the NFC South for a fourth straight season.
