Buffalo Bills Bet on NFL Futures Super Bowl Long Shot

Buffalo Bills 2018 Super Bowl Futures

Older football fans remember Buffalo as a power of the American Football League.  Following them is a generation that recalls the four consecutive Super Bowl berths from 1990-93.  However current Bills fans have been a lost generation.  At least until last year when Buffalo finally made the playoffs.  For the first time since the 1999 season.  As a result of this long-term ineptitude the Bills have lacked appeal.  Thus, their playoff berth may not immediately change Bet on NFL perceptions.  In fact, the question is if last year was a fluke?  Or a portent of things to come?

Sean McDermott

True, the wild card playoff game was cause for celebration with Bills fans.  And a landmark achievement.  First year head coach Sean McDermott was hailed as a savior.  Also getting credit was first year general manager Brandon Beane.  Finally Buffalo was back in post season play.  Accordingly many of their fans made the trip to Jacksonville.  But reality slapped everyone in the face.  The playoff game was a 10-3 Bet on NFL loss to the Jaguars.

Josh Allen

Beane has invested much of his credibility into quarterback Josh Allen.  It is true that many find Allen a polarizing choice.  On the whole Beane considers Allen the quarterback of the future.  In addition he considers the rookie draft pick a franchise type prospect.  Of the top four quarterbacks at the NFL Draft Allen cause the most ambiguity.  Veteran backup AJ McCarron was also brought in.  Balanced against Allen’s learning curve is McCarron’s experience.  Moreover McCarron is expected to start the season.  McDermott and Beane don’t want to rush their prized pick.

Offensive Line in Trouble

Presently worrisome to Buffalo is their offensive line.  It was once their biggest sportsbook asset.  But three of the top players from the unit have departed.  Left tackle Cordy Glenn was traded to Cincinnati.  At the same time Eric Wood had to retire.  And Richie Incognito also called it quits.  However 2017 second round pick Dion Dawkins showed well last year.  In turn he is expected to make up for Glenn’s loss.  Additionally free agent center Russell Bodine arrives as a proven veteran.

Buffalo’s Needs

Among the big needs for Buffalo is an improved pass rush.  Most of the unit was below par in 2017.  In fact, only Jerry Hughes was considered consistently adequate.  Admittedly 2016 first round pick Shaq Lawson has been a disappointment.  Consequently, free agent Trent Murphy was signed to push Lawson.  In addition, defensive tackle Kyle Williams was signed.  Further, he had to be as the heart and soul of the unit.  Expensive free agent Star Lotulelei is hoped to further pressure.  In conclusion nobody can say Beane didn’t try.

Matchup to Watch

While Bills fans were thrilled over 2017 they understand a step back may come this fall.  Naturally gamblers enjoyed the nine Bet on NFL payouts from Buffalo last year.  In conclusion quarterback will be the one major question. Of course McCarron was never going to start in Cincinnati.  Even so there are doubts about how long he keeps Allen on the bench.
