Colts Finally Move Forward with QB Of the Future

Colts Finally Move Forward with QB Of the Future

Previously, the Indianapolis Colts have swapped out quarterbacks like a flat tire. Since the shocking retirement of Andrew Luck, it has been a revolving door. But Indianapolis has solved its NFL odds challenge for years to come. Namely, Anthony Richardson, the Colts now have one of the most thrilling prospects in all football. Now it will be up to new coach Shane Steichen to lead a franchise resurgence. Steichen was the offensive coordinator for the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts. The Colts see a perfect connection between QB and coach.

An online betting scheduling quirk will have the Colts playing nine games at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2023 but just seven games at their opponent’s home stadiums. The nine-game home slate is courtesy of the NFL’s unbalanced 17-game schedule. At the same time, one of their eight road games will technically be played at a neutral site against the New England Patriots in Frankfurt, Germany, in Week 10.

2023 Indianapolis Colts Offseason Moves

In sum, the Colts’ free agency moves were largely underwhelming. They signed kicker Matt Gay to the largest free-agent contract for a kicker in NFL history. Despite facing far more pressing issues.

Indianapolis lost key players on defense. To show, they traded cornerback Stephon Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys and lost linebacker Bobby Okereke to the New York Giants. Still, they did add edge defender Samson Ebukam to a solid rotation of pass rushers. Ebukam was on a talented 49ers defense and will produce for the Colts.
Previously, the Indianapolis quarterback job was up for grabs between Gardner Minshew, Nick Foles, and Sam Ehlinger. But Anthony Richardson, their first-round pick, undoubtedly gives them more long-term faith. However, that may not immediately translate in 2023.

The Colts were one of the “winners” of the draft after selecting several high-ceiling, uber-athletic players. Including Kansas State cornerback Julius Brents, Northwestern defensive lineman Adetomiwa Adebawore and Miami tight end Will Mallory. Still, it will likely take a year or two before this class can significantly impact the win column. Since 1995 the Colts have been one of the most successful franchises in pro football. Indianapolis has missed the playoffs just nine times since then. Of course, much of that success was due to Peyton Manning, who led them to two Super Bowl appearances with one win.
