Dolphins Season Comes Down to Tua’s Health

Dolphins Season Comes Down to Tua’s Health

The Dolphins retained a decent chunk of their roster this offseason. But they traded for cornerback Jalen Ramsey and signed linebacker David Long. After adding those defensive playmakers, they focused most of their attention on fortifying their offense. Specifically, in the draft, they selected running back Devon Achane, tight end Elijah Higgins and offensive tackle Ryan Hayes. If Tua Tagovailoa can stay healthy, Miami may be an NFL odds force to be reckoned with in the AFC East.

The Dolphins ended up with the second-toughest online betting schedule in the NFL. Specifically, that is based on the opponent’s combined winning percentage last season. And this factor happened because of bad timing. The reason is the rotation system the NFL uses for its scheduling. In turn, for 2023, the system has the AFC East teams face all teams from the NFC East, which had a league-best 43-23-2 combined record last season.

2023 Miami Dolphins Offseason Moves

The Dolphins didn’t have a 2023 first-round pick. Miami’s four total picks were the fewest of any team in the league this year. When their NFL betting odds turn finally came, the Fins added another intriguing talent to their high-profile cornerback room.

South Carolina cover man Cam Smith isn’t about to steal playing time from Jalen Ramsey or Xavien Howard. Still, he will almost certainly have an immediate role in Vic Fangio’s zone-coverage scheme. If Smith makes strides as a rookie, he could push Ramsey or Howard out of the lineup in 2024.

Last season, Miami had an underperforming, albeit banged-up, defense. However, they upgraded in the form of newly hired defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and former All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Also, adding linebacker David Long Jr. could be the under-the-radar signing of the year as he helps solidify the middle of the Dolphins defense. With Fangio at the helm and young talent at every level, Miami could push for top-10 production on both sides of the ball in 2023.

Owner Stephen M Ross bought the team in 2008 and has been one of the least effective owners in the NFL. After head coach Brian Flores was fired in January 2022, he accused Ross of offering to pay him to lose games. So far, Ross has not sued Flores for defamation of character. And heading into training camp, there was no news to the contrary. Following a 2022 playoff campaign under then-rookie head coach Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins are focused on a bright future.
