2024 NFC East Overview

In recent years, the Cowboys and Eagles have been the dominant teams of the NFC East. Since 2001, the Eagles won the division ten times with Dallas taking it 12 times since 1992. Last year, the Cowboys took the NFC East for the fifth time since 2014 and the second time in three seasons.

Just two years ago, then-rookie head coach Brian Daboll took the Giants to an unexpected playoff berth and a postseason win at Minnesota. Thus, last year’s setback season was a bitter offshore betting disappointment. Now gamblers are weary of Daboll and controversial quarterback Daniel Jones. New York fans have fully accepted Jones after being taken in the first round of the 2019 NFL season out of Duke.

Jones had a career NFL betting odds season under Daboll in 2022 and got a big new contract as a result. But in 2023, Jones could answer the bell in only six games and saw his QBR drop from 92.5 to 70.5. Now, the 2024 season will be a gut check for Big Blue, Daboll, Jones, fans, and gamblers.

The Philadelphia Eagles started the 2023 season with a 10-1 record. And they were a strong Super Bowl betting favorite before the roof caved in. Philadelphia lost five of its final six games in the regular season and was slaughtered 32-13 in the NFC Playoffs at Tampa Bay. The Eagles’ defense was among the worst in the NFL. Correlate that head coach Nick Sirianni was exposed without his offensive and defensive coordinators from the 2022 team that nearly beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

The season ended so badly that Sirianni was said to have a potential date with the firing squad. Although he escaped that fate he begins 2024 on one of the hottest seats in pro football.

Speaking of the hot seat, Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy is in that class. Previously, McCarthy has led the Cowboys to three consecutive playoff berths but has flopped each year in the postseason. Now McCarthy faces a Super Bowl or best season with his QB, Dak Prescott, playing under the pressure of an option year. McCarthy’s boss, owner Jerry Jones, is friends with sidelined coaching great Bill Belichick.

Since the Philadelphia Eagles won four straight division titles from 2001 to 2004, we haven’t seen a team win the NFC East in consecutive years. That trend has continued for almost two decades.

The Dallas Cowboys have dominated with 25 NFC East titles. Dallas was a juggernaut in the 1970s, winning seven division crowns in that stretch. The Cowboys added another six division titles as the team of the 1990s. The New York Giants haven’t won the NFC East since 2011. However, they might not win a division title for a while, given the absence of talent on the roster.
