On the whole the one constant of the Washington Redskins has been mediocrity. Since Dan Snyder took ownership in 1999 the Redskins have floundered. Washington has a pro football betting record of 139-180-1 during his tenure as owner. And things may get worse before they ever get better. Fans have grown to hate Snyder for reasons beyond the losing. Cause by rising prices and obnoxious game day experience changes have they rebelled. All of which leads to a tough season opener at Philadelphia. Head coach Jay Gruden enters his sixth season with a career mark of 35-44-1.

Who will Quarterback the Redskins?
Last season Washington finished 7-9 straight up, 9-7 against the spread. Offense was the football betting weakness of the Redskins. Quarterback Alex Smith was injured in the tenth game of the season. In fact, Smith likely remains out for the 2019 season. His fractured leg is damaged so bad that his career may be over. Enter first round draft pick Dwayne Haskins. On the whole the Ohio State star is expected to be the quarterback of the future. And it’s possible that future is now. Additional quarterback candidates are Case Keenum and Colt McCoy.
Foles Departs
Following their 2017 Super Bowl championship season the Eagles were a 2018 disappointment. Philadelphia posted an offshore betting record of 9-7 straight up and 7-9 against the spread. Concurrently the Eagles lost their divisional playoff round at New Orleans 20-14. But the big news came after the season. Super Bowl hero Nick Foles signed as a free agent with Jacksonville. Which means that the often-injured Carson Wentz will not be looking over his shoulder anymore. While Wentz has better numbers than Foles he doesn’t boast the championship as starter. Of course, the Wentz/Foles debate became a distraction.
Defensive Drop
Owing to a defense that ranked 23rd overall was a big part of Philadelphia’s demise. In like manner the Eagles finished 30th for passing yards allowed. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz led the Philadelphia Super Bowl defense and is well regarded. Likewise, the Washington offense may not have the weaponry to expose the Eagles.
Washington vs. Philadelphia Football Betting Trends
Late results show the Redskins have been a decent value as a road dog. Washington has paid in six of their last 10 in that role. By contrast the Eagles have bled red ink as a home chalk. Philadelphia has covered only one of their last eight in that situation.
Redskins and Eagles Head to Head vs. Spread
Philadelphia has had the better of this series recently. To illuminate the Eagles have gotten the money in four straight games against Washington. Three of those four games went under the total.
Matchup to Watch
In this situation Washington’s offense is not a football betting matchup advantage. Increasingly the Eagles defense should be improved and able to handle the Redskins. As mentioned earlier Philadelphia has dominated this series.
