Gamblers Reload for Chiefs to Run it Back in 2023

With three Super Bowl appearances and two championships in four years, the Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL odds gold standard. At the onset of 2023 future market action, gamblers are expecting more of the same. Last year, people wondered how the Chiefs would replace the hole in their offense left by wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Patrick Mahomes answered that question by throwing for 500 more yards than any other quarterback in the NFL. Kansas City is again losing their top wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster. Yet gamblers believe the Chiefs will again find a way to fill the gap.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs begin the 2023 NFL season with a game against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 7 at Arrowhead Stadium. Specifically, the matchup is the traditional Thursday night prime-time game for the defending Super Bowl champions.

The Chiefs have eight offshore betting matchups against 2022 playoff teams. Also, Kansas City will play six prime-time games. Including a rematch of their Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles on a Monday night in Week 11 at Arrowhead.

2023 Kansas City Chiefs Offseason Moves

The Chiefs released Frank Clark and lost starting offensive tackles Orlando Brown Jr. and Andrew Wylie in free agency. However, their NFL betting odds signings of tackle Jawaan Taylor and edge defender Charles Omenihu mitigate those departures.

Overall, the Chiefs had a solid draft, adding an elite edge defender and other targets for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Anudike-Uzomah produced PFF grades of 74.0 or better in the past two seasons. Also, 21 of his 89 pressures over the past two seasons resulted in a sack.

The Kansas City Chiefs were one of the greatest teams in NFL history from 1966 through 1971. The Chiefs played in the first Super Bowl, losing to the Green Bay Packers. However, Kansas City then beat the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. The AFL and NFL merged after that game.

The Chiefs went into a dark period from 1974 through 1988. Following the darkness, team president Carl Peterson and coach Marty Schottenheimer made them perennial contenders in the 1990s.

But it was not until Andy Reid arrived as head coach that the Chiefs returned to the Super Bowl and won it 50 years after their first title.
