New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley has been suspended by the NFL for the regular season opener. Boley signed a five-year, $25 million dollar contract in the off-season with the Giants as NFL betting information shows, and is expected to become a fixture on defense for New York. The reason for the suspension was not announced by the league although it is related to an incident Boley had while with the Atlanta Falcons last year. According to records, Boley was arrested and charged with three counts of domestic battery for allegedly beating his wife, Chantelle. Boley will miss the opener of the NFL betting regular season and lose $147,059 in salary. He probably would have missed the NFL odds opener anyway since he had surgery last month to repair a torn labrum in his hip. Boley probably would have missed training camp anyway but now he will miss the opener. He is still eligible to play in preseason games though. He will be eligible to play in Week 2 for the Giants. The Giants are considered one of the favorites in NFL odds to win the Super Bowl as they are listed at 9-1 at the sports book.
NFL betting info tells us that the Giants were aware that Boley could be suspended when they signed him. General Manager Jerry Resse said the team knew of the situation with Boley before he was signed. Boley was not suspended last season by the league because the court case took a while to be resolved. Boley and his wife are getting a divorce and that should be finalized this month. There is a mutual restraining order in effect. Court records show that the case was dropped but the NFL issued a penalty anyway, perhaps because Boley may have agreed to some sort of penalty instead of having the case drag out through the courts. The suspension by the NFL of Boley really means nothing other than Boley losing a week’s salary. It could be that the team and Boley knew of the league’s decision and that is why Boley had surgery to repair the torn labrum. Boley would have been questionable for the NFL betting opener anyway with the surgery so the suspension doesn’t really hurt New York. The Giants are the second choice to win the NFC this season in sportsbook odds behind only the Philadelphia Eagles.
