History beckons for Super Bowl LIV. The account of the Kanas City Chiefs on making it to Super Sunday for the first time in 50 years. What gets lost is the Chief’s special place in pro football. Specifically, there would be no such thing as Super Bowl bets if not for the Chiefs. KC was a charter member of the American Football League in 1960. Namely, Lamar Hunt has not just founded the team, but the entire league as well. As the AFL ceased to exist in January of 1970 Hunt’s Chiefs destroyed Minnesota 23-7 in Super Bowl IV to reach NFL equality.

A New Cool Quarterback for Kansas City
50 years ago, Lenny “The Cool” Dawson quarterbacked the Chiefs to their only Super Bowl title. Now another cool leader has control of football’s most prolific offense. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was NFL Most Valuable Player last year. This year he reaffirmed his status as pro football’s best with a tremendous campaign. To show, Mahomes passed for a 105.3 QB rating in the regular season with 4031 yards and a 26/5 touchdown to interception ratio. In the postseason he twice rallied the Chiefs from double-digit deficits to convincing wins. His leadership matches his stellar playing ability.
A Team Effort
While Mahomes is the Chief’s main online wagering asset he has had plenty of help. The turning point of the season is when Mahomes was lost to injury early in a game at Denver. At first, it was feared the Chiefs would fold. Instead, they rallied to become a complete team in a 30-6 win and payout. A clear difference could be seen in the vastly improved defense compared to one year ago. A unit that was rendered helpless in 2018 climbed to seventh-best in the NFL for points allowed this year. New defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was instrumental.
Vast Arsenal of Weaponry
At the onset of Kansas City’s rally from a 24-0 deficit to Houston tight end Travis Kelce exploded. The All-Pro tight end ended up with 10 catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns as the Chiefs rallied for a 51-31 win. KC scored 41 unanswered points in the playoff comeback. Correlate that nobody had ever seen such a football tsunami. In the regular season, Kelce caught 97 passes for 1229 yards and five touchdowns. In the same way, Tyreek Hill was paramount in the AFC championship win. Hill caught five passes for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns vs. Tennessee.
Big Red
Cause by his tremendous offensive mind, leadership, and personality does Andy Reid has many admirers. It is safe to say that the coaching and scouting community will be pulling for “Big Red.” But Reid’s greatest accomplishment so far is ending Kansas City’s Super Bowl drought. Now comes the chance to earn his first-ever Super Bowl bets win. Consider Reid has the most coaching wins in history for someone that has never won a Super Bowl.
Most important of all he saved a legacy franchise that was gutted by misfit general manager Scott Pioli. The Hunt family can again be proud of a franchise unlike any other in pro football.
