On the whole, the Houston Texans are all about the NFL odds future. Head coach David Culley was fired after one year with a roster that had no chance for success in 2021. Culley inherited a team that played shorthanded against vastly superior competition. Specifically, starting quarterback Deshaun Watson was suspended for the entire season. Houston was finished before the season even began. The roof caved in quickly without their most important player. And then, in a bizarre move, the Texans hired Lovey Smith as the man to replace Culley. More misery is expected in 2022.

A Winding History of Success and Failure for Texans
At the beginning, the Texans were founded as a 2002 expansion team. Following the move of the Houston Oilers to Tennessee. Houston is not an offshore betting franchise that has lacked regular-season success. Consider the Texans made the playoffs six times from 2011 through 2019. However, their postseason record has been unlucky. Houston has never advanced past the divisional round.
Following their stunning 2019 AFC Divisional Playoff loss at the Kansas City Chiefs, the Texans never recovered. Accordingly, Houston jumped to a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter. Thus, many fans and gamblers believed that the game was over. Instead, Kansas City exploded to score 41 unanswered points en route to a 51-31 win. The humiliation for the Texans has never been lived down. Most important of all, then-head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien imploded.
O’Brien came off as unhinged in the offseason leading up to the 2020 campaign. To illuminate, he made bizarre roster moves that were an overreaction to the loss at Kansas City. As a result, the team tuned out O’Brien, and he was fired early in the 2020 campaign after an 0-4 start. Since that debacle in Kansas City, the Texans have never returned to the postseason.
Houston Texans Face Long Road in 2022
Cause of being among the worst teams in the NFL, the Texans are not attractive for feature TV games. In fact, their only prime-time game is in week nine at home against the Philadelphia Eagles on Prime Video. That game is scheduled for Thursday, November 3.
Houston has a potentially interesting game in week 13 when they host the Cleveland Browns. If Deshaun Watson is eligible, it is quite conceivable that he would be the Browns starting quarterback. To be exact, Watson would return to Houston, where his career fell apart after such a promising start.
Regarding fan pride, the Texans’ week 14 game at the Dallas Cowboys rates the highest. Before their infamous flameout at Kansas City, The Texans were a more successful franchise than the Cowboys. Yet it didn’t matter, as Dallas has always been the dominant brand in Texas.
Lovie Smith Arrives
Smith had a solid NFL betting odds run as head coach of the Chicago Bears. But his most recent gig as head coach at the University of Illinois was an unmitigated disaster. The mild-mannered Smith gets along with others and has that NFL record of success that the Texans could sell to the masses.
And then, concerning Deshaun Watson, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns for a host of draft picks. The trade has sparked optimism about better days ahead in Houston. However, those better days do not include 2022, as gamblers expect another miserable year.
