The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the long shots in NFL preseason betting odds this season. Jacksonville is 62-1 to win the Super Bowl and they are 12-1 to win the AFC South. The Jaguars begin 2010 as underdogs in NFL preseason odds as they visit Philadelphia on August 13th.NFL preseason betting for the Jaguars continues in Week 2 as they host the Miami Dolphins. The Jaguars then travel to Tampa Bay in Week 3 before hosting Atlanta in their preseason finale. The Jaguars have a very good running back in Maurice Jones-Drew but there are not a lot of other recognizable players on the roster.
Jacksonville is now just 57-55 under head coach Jack Del Rio. Jacksonville simply is an average football team and with the Indianapolis Colts in the same division, average is just not good enough. They have a good quarterback in David Garrard, who is not going to wow you and a mediocre defense. The Jaguars rely upon Jones-Drew to carry the load and for Garrard to manage the game. The team has very little receiving talent other than Mike Sims-Walker so they have to work their way down the field in small chunks.
The defense for Jacksonville is a lot like the offense. They don’t make many big plays and they don’t give up many. They don’t have a pass rush but they did spend a lot of money in the off-season on Aaron Kampman who they got from Green Bay. The team also added Kirk Morrison in a trade with the Oakland Raiders. Whether or not Kampman and Morrison can regain their top form could determine how well the Jacksonville defense plays in 2010.
Rashean Mathis is a good cornerback when he is on the field. He has missed 12 games since the 2007-2008 seasons. The Jaguars were just 18th last season in total yards while they were 23rd in most yards allowed. Those numbers have the sound of an average or below average team in NFL preseason odds.
Interest in the Jacksonville Jaguars is at an all-time low in Florida. The Jaguars are well behind where they need to be in season ticket sales. The preseason will be an important time for them as they need to show fans there is hope for a winning season.
