Los Angeles Rams Team Overview
Certainly, it’s a shame for the Rams that Aaron Donald retired. Correlate that they’d have had an excellent chance to make a Super Bowl run once again. The Rams still have tons of online wagering talent. So, if Matthew Stafford can remain healthy, Los Angeles could venture deep into the playoffs despite Donald’s departure.
The Rams had been known as the Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp show for several years. Stafford continued to perform at a high-level last year, and Kupp posted some big games when he returned from injury. However, two new stars emerged to ensure that the Rams would have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.
First is Puka Nacua. Despite being a fifth-round rookie, Nacua out-produced Kupp in most games in which the two were on the field together. Second to emerge this past season was Kyren Williams. Cam Akers was projected to be the starting running back heading into last season. But Williams was so impressive that the Rams were able to get rid of Akers early during the year. Williams was able to break through tackles and catch passes out of the backfield. In sum, he rushed for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he caught 32 passes for 206 receiving yards.
Detroit Lions Team Overview
Previously, nobody would have believed that the Lions would now have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. They ranked fourth in offensive EPA last year, scoring 31 points twice in the playoffs, including the NFC Championship matchup against the 49ers.
There’s no reason to think the Lions will regress. First, Jared Goff has revived his career in Detroit and was rewarded with a $212 million contract. Goff will continue to perform at a high level. Additionally, there is a terrific supporting cast. Including the offensive line surrounding him.
Certainly, Goff has some of the best blocking in the NFL. This includes the tackle tandem, as Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker are both Pro Bowl-caliber players. Sewell is especially terrific, as he has evolved into one of the top blind-side protectors in the pros.
In turn, the Lions’ explosive offense was paired with a defense that shut down the run well and generated good pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Detroit’s one weakness, however, was its inability to stop the pass.
The front office correctly diagnosed this liability and addressed it during the 2024 NFL Draft. To illuminate, they traded up several spots in the opening round to select Terrion Arnold, a talented cornerback who could have gone as high as No. 15 overall.
