At the onset of the future market, NFL odds for the first coach to be fired are two favorites. Especially when that change is made in-season. At the beginning is that a football team has the most players of any major sport. Additionally, football is the most specialized sport. There are coordinators for offense, defense, and special teams.

McCarthy Under Fire But Jones is More Prudent Than Realized

It is true that Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is on the sports betting hot seat. McCarthy gave off a tell when he added offensive coordinator to his responsibilities for 2023. But gamblers may be reaching with McCarthy as a favorite. To illuminate, owner Jerry Jones has a history of sticking with head coaches. Especially during the season. It would take a catastrophic start to the 2023 campaign for McCarthy to be fired. And that is not expected for a Dallas team coming off a 2022 playoff season.

Bowles in Serious Danger With Free-Falling Buccaneers

Todd Bowles took over a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team coming off a 2020 Super Bowl campaign and 2021 divisional playoff run. Bowles inherited a distracted Tom Brady, and the Bucs posted a losing season. It was an omen of what was to come. Tampa Bay is no longer a serious contender. Since Brady retired, the Bucs have had a revolving door of quarterbacks. And the rest of the team is nowhere near what it was when it won the Super Bowl in Brady’s first season.

Tampa Bay is not as popular with the NFL betting odds as the Cowboys. Certainly, If there were more public awareness of the Bucs, Bowles would be the favorite to be fired first.

McDaniels Makes Sense To Be Cashed Out in Vegas

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis is a great example of what it would be like if Fredo Corleone inherited a football team. Of course, Mark is the son of the late Al Davis, who was the Hall of Fame owner of the club. Mark is NOT a chip off the old block. He fired interim coach Rich Bisaccia after he led the Raiders to the 2021 NFL Playoffs as interim head coach. Instead of going with a success story, Davis went with a proven failure. Davis hired Josh McDaniels, best known as Bill Belichick’s valet and offensive coordinator when Tom Brady was QB.

Last year, McDaniels was called on the carpet by Davis before the first month of the season was completed. Cause by the Raiders flopped out of the gate under his leadership. McDaniels has never come close to sniffing success as an NFL head coach. Now with an unsettled QB situation, there is no reason to believe he will succeed in 2022. Davis will be under intense fire to make it right.
