Miami Ready for Betting on NFL Change of Guard at New England?

Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots

At the beginning of the season New England was the understandable betting on NFL favorite in the AFC East.  In fact, nobody else was mentioned as a viable alternative.  But as the NFL season heads to week four it is Miami atop the division.  Alternatively, New England is in the basement with Buffalo and New York.  In a similar light there is now the story line of a changing of the guard.  Compared to past years Miami looks like the team to beat.  At least for now.  Therefore, a win at New England would substantially enhance their credibility.

New England Patriots

New England is 1-2 both straight up and against the spread.  Extending that bad look is a two-game losing streak.  Another difficult pill to swallow was last week’s prime time loss at Detroit.  Indeed, Bill Belichick was defeated by his former pupil Matt Patricia 26-10.  Following this the Patriots have among the ugliest numbers in the NFL.  Summing New England ranks 25th for total offense and 26th for scoring.  In the same way the defense has been subpar.  The Pats rank 28th overall in the league in that category.  Also New England ranks next to last vs. the rush.

Miami Dolphins

Contrarily Miami is 3-0 both straight up and vs. the line.  The Dolphins are coming off a 28-20 home payout over Oakland.  So far, the strength of the Dolphins is a defense that ranks sixth in the NFL for points allowed.  In a similar fashion has been the spectacular play of quarterback Ryan Tannehill.  To show Tannehill has a 121.8 quarterback rating with seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

Stats to Consider

Miami has been a weak Betting on NFL value as a road dog recently.  Consider the Dolphins have covered just one of their last six as away pups.  Four of their last six in that role have gone over the total.  Balanced against that is New England’s strong wagering value at Gillette Stadium.  Correlate the Patriots mark of 7-1 against the spread as a home favorite.  Three of their last four in that situation have gone under the total.

Team vs. Team

New England has utterly dominated this online wagering matchup against Miami.  As an example, the Patriots have lost just five of their last 16 against the spread with the Dolphins.  Three of the last four meetings have gone over the total.  It follows that the Pats would rule the cashier’s cage at home in this matchup.  In fact, New England has paid in six in a row at Gillette Stadium vs. Miami.  Three of the last four between these teams at New England went over the total.

Matchup to Watch

This is not the first time New England has been written off as a Betting on NFL Contender.  Certainly, they have had bad stretches and losses.  More emphatically they have the proven ability of bouncing back from adversity.  As mentioned earlier all trends point to the Pats.
