NFL Betting – Saints Favored at San Francisco on Monday Night

September 16th, 2022 NFL Football Betting Online Odds

The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints get the spotlight for the second straight week as they travel to San Francisco where they are favored in NFL betting against the 49ers.

The Saints played last week in the season opener on NBC and this week they get the 49ers on Monday Night Football.  New Orleans is getting action again this week from gamblers who make an NFL bet and that should continue right up until game time. The Saints are 5.5 point favorites at Sbg with the total on the game at 44. New Orleans had a tough win last week in their season opener against the Vikings.  It was not a pretty win but that doesn’t really matter since the Saints are 1-0. On the other side, the 49ers were horrible in a loss at Seattle and changes could be on the way if they don’t show up for this one on Monday.

New Orleans actually scored the fewest points ever in a win under head coach Sean Payton. They got just 14 against Minnesota last week but their defense held the Vikings to only nine points. Kicker Garrett Hartley missed two field goals and the offense was not sharp.  Quarterback Drew Brees and the offense should find more success against a San Francisco defense that was not very good last week.

How can you Like San Francisco with Alex Smith? – There is just no way to sugar coat this.  Alex Smith is not a quality NFL quarterback and he never has been.  Everyone in San Francisco except head coach Mike Singletary has figured that out.  Smith was rotten again last week and there is simply no way you can like making an NFL bet on the 49ers with Smith at quarterback. Smith threw two interceptions last week but that is nothing new. He is not a good quarterback and San Francisco will not be a good team until they put him on the bench.

Saints Have Won Five Straight vs. 49ers – The Saints have beaten the 49ers the last five times and there is not much reason to think it won’t be six in a row after this game is over. The last NFL betting meeting was two years ago when the Saints won 31-17.  Brees is 4-0 in his career against the 49ers with 1,221 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. The 49ers lead the all-time series 45-23-2, but have lost five straight by an average of 14 points per game.
