NFL Kansas City Chiefs Seek Redemption & Super Return

NFL Kansas City Chiefs Seek Redemption & Super Return

On the whole, the current edition of the Kansas City Chiefs has equaled the franchise’s championship era of the 1960s. Head coach Andy Reid has led the Chiefs to two Super Bowls, winning one. In like manner, the late great Hall of Fame coach Hank Stram did so too. Meanwhile, current superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes matches the Hall of Famer Len Dawson in that regard. While the old Chiefs had a dominant defense, the current Chiefs outscore opponents. Most of the time, it works, but the NFL odds results can be disastrous when it doesn’t.

Chiefs Boast a History of a Legacy Franchise

At the onset, the Chiefs were founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans. They were charter members of the American Football League. Also, owner Lamar Hunt was the founder of the AFL. Shortly after Hunt formed the AFL and his franchise, the NFL counter-attacked with a declaration of war. The Dallas Cowboys were created to fight the Texans in the Dallas and Fort Worth market. Following their 1962 AFL championship, the Texans were wooed to Kansas City.

In turn, the Chiefs were one of the greatest teams in NFL history from 1966 through 1971. The Chiefs played in the first Super Bowl, losing to the Green Bay Packers. Subsequently, Kansas City then beat the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.

Those Chiefs teams were loaded with Hall of Famers. Namely coach Hank Stram, quarterback Len Dawson, kicker Jan Stenerud, linebackers Willie Lanier and Bobby Bell, defensive backs Johnny Robinson and Emmitt Thomas, and defensive linemen Buck Buchanan and Curley Culp.

The Chiefs went into a dark period from 1974 through 1988. But team president Carl Peterson and coach Marty Schottenheimer made them into perennial sports betting contenders in the 1990s. However, it was not until Andy Reid arrived as head coach that the Chiefs returned to the Super Bowl. Kansas City won it 50 years after their first title. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes surpassed Len Dawson as the best in franchise history. Indeed the Chiefs are a proud legacy franchise. In fact, the AFC championship trophy is named after their late great Hall of Fame founder Lamar Hunt.

Looking Ahead – 2022 Chiefs Favored Again

Last January, Kansas City let the opportunity for its third consecutive Super Bowl appearance go to waste. The Chiefs suffered an incredible NFL betting odds home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2021 AFC Championship Game. But after a strong draft, the Chiefs are the co-favorites to win the AFC title with the Buffalo Bills.

Of course, the Chiefs are one of the most attractive TV properties in the NFL, and that means they get their share of prime-time feature action. In week two, the Chiefs make their first Prime Video appearance against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Arrowhead home opener.

Week four brings a Super Bowl rematch of superstar quarterback at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on NBC Sunday Night Football. Next comes the ESPN Monday Night Football return to Arrowhead for the rivalry renewal game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Kansas City hosts the Tennessee Titans in a week nine NFC Sunday Night Football matchup. And in week 14, the Chiefs are at the Denver Broncos on NBC Sunday Night Football.
