Finally, after two years stuck in the ditch, the Texans have hit the road searching for renewed NFL relevance. Houston was the big NFL odds star of the 2023 NFL Draft. Houston stayed home at No. 2 to select quarterback C.J. Stroud. And then they pulled the trigger on a blockbuster trade to move up to No. 3 to catch Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson Jr. It is true that the cost to get Anderson was significant. But no one will remember if it restores the Texans to contender status.

2023 Houston Texans Offseason Moves
Overall, the Texans made some moderate but impactful NFL betting odds moves in free agency. They added receiving options in Robert Woods, Dalton Schultz, and Noah Brown. Additionally, they acquired proven running backs, Devin Singletary and Mike Boone. Also, Houston added to their offensive line by trading for guard Shaq Mason.
Meanwhile, Houston’s defense was elevated by the signings of interior defender Sheldon Rankins. And then one of the best veteran safeties available in Jimmie Ward. The Texans’ defense graded out at 31st in the league last season. So they need all the help they can get.
Houston made the playoffs six times from 2011 through 2019. However, their postseason record has been hapless. The Texans were founded as a 2002 expansion team following the move of the Houston Oilers to Tennessee.
Following their stunning 2019 AFC Divisional Playoff loss at the Kansas City Chiefs, the Texans have never been the same. Houston jumped out to a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter. Kansas City scored 41 unanswered points en route to a 51-31 win. In turn, the humiliation for the Texans has never been lived down.
