This past Sunday, the New England Patriots now 7-2 (1st AFC East) crushed the Denver Broncos now 6-2 (1st AFC West) 43-21, at home at the Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, and the game was on CBS TV. Let’s recap how the Pats dismantled Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
This was a game that confronted two of the NFL’s best QBs in Brady of the Patriots, and Manning of the Broncos, but this was going to be Brady’s night, as he outshine opponent QB Manning in the game.
The offensive statistics in the game don’t indicate the difference in the score of the game, as the losing Broncos had 26 first downs on 75 plays for 472 yards with 429 passing and 43 rushing yards with 2 turnovers, both interceptions. The Patriots on the other side had 29 first downs on 79 plays for 398 total yards, with 332 passing and 66 rushing yards with 1 turnover, and 1 interception.
Looking at the score board, the Broncos were scoreless in the 2nd quarter, scoring 7 points in the 1st quarter, while the Patriots score 3 points in the 1st and 24 in the second quarter, bringing the half-time score to Denver 7 and New England 27 which was a 20 point advantage going into the 2nd half of the game. Denver came back in the 3rd scoring 14 points, while the Pats scored 10, then in the 4th the Broncos again were scoreless, while the Pats scored 6 points and the final score was New England Patriots 43 and the Denver Broncos 21.
The offensive leaders for the Broncos were; QB Manning, who completed 34 of 57, passes for 438 yards with 2 touchdowns, while being intercepted 2 times, and sacked 1 time for a 9 yard loss. RBs Anderson & Hillman, who had 13 carries for a combined 34 yards, with Hillman scoring 1 TD. Receivers Sanders & Thomas had 17 receptions for a combined 178 yards.
Leading the offensive performance for the Patriots were; QB Brady, who completed 33 of 53 passes for 333 yards and 4 touchdowns, with 1 interception and he was sacked 1 time for a loss of 1 yard in the game. RB’s Gray & Vereen had 23 carries for a combined 62 yards. Receivers Gronkowski & Edelman had 18 receptions for 194 yards with Gronkowski scoring 1 TD and Edelman scored 1 TD.
The Patriots Gillette Stadium has become a house of horrors for Broncos QB Manning, as he has no often left Foxborough with a smiling face. This was the 1st game in NFL history with 2 opposing QB’s both having more than 150 regular season wins.
