Making a Super Bowl Bet on the Total

Super Bowl News: Making a Super Bowl Bet on the Total.  Most gamblers that make a Super Bowl bet focus on the side and in recent years they have played the props.  Isn’t there any love for the total in 2011 Super Bowl betting?  The total has been a great wager in recent Super Bowls especially with everyone looking to bet the over.  Let’s take a look at a couple of things to consider as you get ready to bet this year’s total.

The Undertaker
It used to be that the Super Bowl was always a high scoring game with teams scoring a ton of points.  Not anymore.  The total on the Super Bowl is still high but the games have been going under. Five of the last six Super Bowls have gone under the total and if not for a late Pittsburgh TD to beat Arizona in Super Bowl XLIII it would be six in a row.  And even with this tendency of games to go under in the Super Bowl the totals have still been high.

Last year’s number was one of the highest ever at 57.  The last six Super Bowl totals have been 57, 46, 55, 47, 47 and 46.5.  As you make your wager on this year’s game you have to seriously consider taking the under in 2011 Super Bowl betting.  And if the total on this year’s game is 50 or more than you really have to think about taking the under as five of eight Super Bowls with a total that high have gone under.

Neutral Site and Layoff
What many gamblers forget about the Super Bowl is that it is at a neutral site and has a two week break in between games.  Teams have to get adjusted to a neutral site and it can oftentimes take offenses a while to get going after having a two-week break after playing in the conference championships.  NFL teams are simply not accustomed to having two weeks off except during their bye week.  Late in the season with all of the hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl it can take a few series to get back into the swing of things and that is all it takes for a game to go under.  Keep that in mind as you make a Super Bowl bet on this year’s total.
