Super Bowl Betting – Green Bay’s Underrated Defense

Super Bowl Betting – Green Bay’s Underrated Defense.  Much of the attention in Super Bowl betting is on Green Bay’s offense led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers but their defense should not be ignored.  The Packers finished with the second best defense in the NFL and they have been making a lot of plays in the past few weeks.  You can bet on Super Bowl odds right now at SBG.

In the first round of the playoffs it was Tramon Williams closing out the Philadelphia Eagles as he intercepted Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick. He made the big play the next week in the win over Atlanta.  In the NFC title game it was defensive tackle B.J. Raji scoring a TD while Sam Shields had two interceptions.

Defensive Player of the Year
We mentioned Williams, Raji and Shields but we didn’t even talk about top cornerback Charles Woodson or probably Defensive Player of the Year Clay Matthews.  It was Matthews who finished with 13.5 sacks this season to lead the Green Bay defense that had 47 sacks on the year.  The Packers had 24 interceptions and allowed just 15 points per game. So far in the playoffs the Packers have 10 sacks and six interceptions.  The Packers have some very good players but they give the credit to defensive coordinator Dom Capers who is one of the best in the game.

Total Down to 44
Bettors so far believe that the defenses are going to win out in Super Bowl betting. The number has drifted down so far for Super Bowl XLV and is currently listed at 44.  The total was higher last week but bettors have been looking at the numbers and they see the top two defenses in the league.  The bettors might want to be a little careful though because the last time these two teams met they combined for 73 points.  Super Bowl totals in recent years have been going under and that could be another reason that bettors who bet on Super bowl odds are looking at the under. Sunday’s Super Bowl total may end up rising before game time as many of the public bettors will still want to cheer for points and take the over.  Look for a number of 45.5 before all is said and done on Sunday.
