Week 9 will open with the Thursday night Prime Video matchup between the visiting Houston Texans and New York Jets. Head coach Robert Saleh arrived to coach the Jets in 2021. Correlate that he is a well-respected and popular head coach. NFL Week 9 Overview
Saleh is entering his fourth season, and it’s reasonable to say that it’s a playoff-or-bust campaign. By contrast, Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans is coming off a spectacular rookie offshore betting campaign. The 2023 season ended with a playoff appearance and the AFC South Division title. Ryans had the benefit of what Saleh did not, which is a competent QB.
Namely, CJ Stroud, the second overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, had a stellar rookie campaign that has sparked hope for the future. But gamblers worry about an NFL betting odds market correction on Houston, concerned that they may have come too far too fast.
NBC Sunday Night Football gets an attractive matchup of the Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, there is a tremendous QB matchup for this game. Trevor Lawrence of the Jaguars and Jalen Hurts of the Eagles bring star power.
Last year, after winning the 2022 NFC championship and nearly beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Philadelphia took a step back. Head coach Nick Sirianni is now on the hot seat as the Eagles imploded after a 10-1 start. In like manner, the Jaguars took a step back after winning a playoff game in 2022.
On ESPN Monday Night Football, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Naturally, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium will be packed with well-lubricated fans at what is the best home-field advantage in the NFL. Tampa Bay is coming off a surprise 2023 NFC South Division title. In turn, castoff QB Baker Mayfield was able to resurrect his career.
