On the whole, it was a good but not great season for the Boston Bruins in 2021-22. Boston is a wild card playoff team with poor play stretches that kept them out of the Atlantic Division race. Boston remains a questionable NHL betting odds Stanley Cup contender. Cause by top-heavy goal-scoring that lacks secondary depth. Defensively, the Bruins were solid, but there remains a lot of skepticism about the goaltending. Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman were solid but not dominant like the Bruins.

SBG Odds Overview – Public Branding Makes Canes a Small Chalk
At the onset of this series is a sports betting brand effect. Boston is one of the top NHL brands on the board. The Bruins have millions of fans going back generations. Many casual hockey fans and gamblers don’t even know about the Hurricanes. Although they are quite good, Carolina operates in relative obscurity.
Of major concern to gamblers is that Boston doesn’t have proven playoff goaltending. Consider they brought back the retired Tuukka Rask earlier this season. Boston hoped Tuukka could reclaim the net. To illuminate, that is the ultimate no-confidence vote on their current tandem.
Boston Bruins – By The Numbers in 2021-22
Boston was 50-25-5 and 35-38 over and under the total. Overall, they were 25-13-2 and 18-19-3 over and under the NHL betting total on home ice. The Bruins were 25-12-3 and 17-20-3 over and under the total on the road. In sum, Boston ranked 15th for goal scoring, 17th for power-play efficiency, 4th for goals allowed, and 9th for penalty killing.
Boston Bruins – A Team of Contrasts and Mixed Messages
Head coach Bruce Cassidy took over the Bruins for the final two months of the 2016-17 campaign. His regular-season record of 194-82-41. Also, his playoff record is 33-33. In 2019 Cassidy led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Final.
Goaltenders Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman were virtually interchangeable this season. To show, Ullmark posted a .914 save percentage and 2.51 goals-against average in 40 games. Swayman also played in 40 games and posted a .915 save percentage with a 2.37 goals-against average.
Left-wing Brad Marchand led the Bruins with 32 goals, 46 assists, and a +13. Consider that Marchand has scored 32 or more goals in five of the last seven seasons. He was a member of the Bruins’ 2011 Stanley Cup championship.
Right-Wing David Pastrnak added 39 goals, 36 assists, and a +13. Pastrnak had an impressive comeback from an injury-plagued season last year.
Carolina ranked as the top defensive team in the NHL this season.
