Hockey Betting – Coyotes Staying in Phoenix for Now

Hockey Betting – Coyotes Staying in Phoenix for Now.  The Phoenix Coyotes will be on the board in hockey betting next season. There was some thought that the Coyotes might be moving to Winnipeg but the team is staying in Arizona for at least one more year.  The Coyotes have had ownership issues for years but they have still played well and been a team worth following in NHL hockey betting.

Glendale Pays $25 Million
The NHL owns the Phoenix Coyotes and they are trying to sell the team to Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer. The NHL has been trying to solve the ownership problems of the Coyotes for a while but they have yet to get anything done.  NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said that the league needs to find a solution.  For the time being the Coyotes will stay in Phoenix as the Glendale City Council voted 5-2 to give the league $25 million in operating costs to keep the team in Arizona.

Messy Situation
The league would probably have sold the team to Hulsizer but there are issues on the lease agreement between Hulsizer and the city of Glendale.  The lease could go against Arizona’s laws that ban subsidies.  Since nothing has been done the city of Glendale was forced to pay $25 million so that the Coyotes don’t move.  There was talk of moving the team to Winnipeg but that talk has died down at least for now. The NHL had an option to get $25 million from the city of Glendale if no deal was worked out and the city of Glendale had no real choice but to pay.  The city has been concerned about taxpayers paying to subsidize the team so no sale has gone through.  The NHL has realized that the deal with Hulsizer is probably never going to happen so they are looking for another buyer.

Coyotes Success
Somehow the Coyotes have ignored the ownership issues and played good hockey. They have made the playoffs the past two seasons and been a team to wager on successfully in NHL hockey betting. If they could just get past the Detroit Red Wings then anything might be possible for the Coyotes. Phoenix won 43 games this season and they were very good in hockey betting on the road with 22 wins, usually as an underdog vs. the odds at SBG.
